6 PREFACE It gives me a pleasure to submit this Assessment and Reaccreditation Report prepared by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of our college to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). We have tried our level best and made sincere efforts for preparing this AQAR. This report has been presented as per the guidelines framed by the NAAC. It is a matter of pride and privilege for our college to submit the same to the NAAC Bangalore. We have highlighted our qualities in this report. 7 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Parent Institution Shri Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur was established in 1954 by a great educationist and foreseer, late Dr.Bapuji Salunkhe to open the door of education to the rural youth. His philosophy aimed at with the motto The Spread of Education for Knowledge, Scientific Attitude and Inculcation of Good Values has inspired thousands of students and teachers. For more than five decades the institution has been imparting knowledge and education through 369 branches, spread across fourteen major districts of Maharashtra namely Kolhapur, Sangali Satara, Pune and Raigad etc. There are a few branches even in Karnataka State. Late Dr.Bapuji a Vedic Scholar and a great admirer of Hindu Traditions based his educational philosophy on five principles namely Truth, Character, Honesty, Freedom from Exploitation, Sacrifice and Service. In the present scenario, with changing circumstances, the institution has adopted some progressive measures and has started schools and colleges with professional courses, so that our rural youth do not lag behind in this age of Science and Computer technology. Today the institution runs 369 Knowledge Centers, imparting education to the students in remote and tribal areas of Maharashtra. The institution runs Kindergartens, Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Higher Secondary Schools, Senior Colleges, D.Ed, B,Ed, Law Colleges, Nursery, Engineering Colleges etc. The College - Samajbhushan Ganpatrao Kalbhor Arts, Commerce & Science College, Loni Kalbhor was established in June 1984, to open the door of higher education to the rural youths, especially boys & girls of the farmers and farmworkers of and around Loni kalbhor. Late Shri Ganpatrao Kalbhor alias Mama and late Dr.Bapuji Salunkhe, the founder of Shri Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur, along with some wellwishers of the Society, took initiative to establish this college. Loni Kalbhor is an agricultural village situated on the bank of the river Mula-Mutha. Loni Kalbhor is on the outskirts of Pune, the so called Seat of Education. The young boys and girls cannot afford to go

8 to Pune for higher education. This college has availed the opportunity of higher education to these rural youths. Today our college is 28 years old and has created a distinct place in the minds of the citizens. The college has two faculties Arts and Commerce. The students of Arts Faculty can offer English, Marathi, Hindi, History, Politics and Economics as Special subject at degree level and the students of the Commerce can faculty offer Accountancy and Costing and Marketing as Special Subjects at degree level. In the past the college had Science faculty too. Unfortunately the Science faculty was closed due to the lack of the sufficient number of students. The college has well-equipped three storied building, a huge playground, a well tendered garden. The facilities for indoor and outdoor games are available in the college Gymkhana. The library has been enriched by the text books and reference books and other reading materials. The college has started Post Graduate Degree Programs M.Com in the academic year and M.A. Economics since The college also runs a Study Center of Y.C.M.O.U, Nashik. The students can obtain B.A, B.Com & M.B.A Degrees through distance mode of learning. The college also runs a computer technology center of T.M.C. Mumbai. The college has been recently included in the list 2(f)/12(B) of the UGC. Our college imparts the quality education guided by the goals and objectives set by our mother institution. Our students have been successfully working in the various fields like teaching, police department, politics, business and industry etc. Some of our faculty members have been members of the university examination committees like Vigilance Committee, Examiners, Moderators, Paper Setters and so on. Some of them have written text books and others have been guides to research students. Some of Faculty members have registered their names for Ph.D and others have submitted Minor and Major projects to the B.C.U.D of University of Pune. One of our staff members has been elected as a member of Board of Studies of Business Management and Faculty member of Commerce Faculty of Pune university We are trying to shape the all round personality of our students through extra curricular activities and co-curricular activities. In addition to this we make efforts to develop such habits and inculcate virtues as to help them become responsible citizens. Our institute provides support immensely both is procedural and practical ways to the teacher for effectively translating the curriculum and in proving teaching practices. Various initiatives towards faculty development are adopted successfully. Eminent teachers are invited to deliver lectures to faculty. Teacher are encouraged to attend and participate in refresher courses, seminar Work shops etc. for upgrading themselves and adapt themselves for current dynamic trends of education.the teachers have participated in seminars workshop conference, paper presentation at sate level national level. Innovations in curriculum design and transition - The lecture method is followed for most of the course. The audio visual aids like television are used in the teaching. To make the learning process more interactive, the practices like pre-reading activates in languages and literature courses, competition, question- answer,oral presentation seminars posters preparation are used in teaching. The teaching session begin with warming up of questions on relevant topic for more participation and session gears up with deeper information with its application day to day life Practical and oral tests are conducted for some course like functional English and Commerce. Field and Industrial visits are organized by Economics, Commerce, History,Political Science departments. The seminars /workshops /Academic Expert Lectures are organized every year by the respective departments and the staff and the students are involved in the activities. The Project Based Learning takes place in as a part of curriculum for the subjects, Economics, Commerce and Environment Science. For

26 degree course in the commerce course Business Correspondence the Computers concepts is compulsory in learning process. The students are provided with all the amenities to acquire the computer skills, they are expected to acquire. This activity helps students to mould, remold themselves towards the currents expectations of the industry. The Institution also provides placement services to the students and there by offers career counseling to them. All the major career opportunities are brought to the notice of the students by the placement officer. The experts from university, research bodies provide personal counseling, information and offer guidance for personality development and enrichment of communication skills. Thus institution maintains and nurtures cordial and long term relationship with the external stakeholders.

Immediately after declaration of H.S.C. results the college makes wide publicity of the admission process in some regional newspapers. In the advertisement, the college highlights the courses offered, subjects taught, various amenities and facilities which single out the college from other colleges of the city. Along with advertisement, prospectus is also one of the best means which ensures wide publicity to the admission process. The prospectus proclaims all the required information to the students and parents like fee structure, college rules and regulations, various subjects that students can offer, scholarships, library and gymnasium facilities etc. The college has website and students can get information about admission process on logging the website The college has setup admission committees to ensure transparency in the admission process. The committee guides students to fill in admission forms, to select subjects.admission forms are received by them on stipulated date. In admission process, the college strictly adhere to rules and regulations laid down by Govt. of Maharashtra and the University of Pune. The admission is given on first come first serve basis. University and U.G.C. rules are followed. The cut off percentage of admission for B.Com I and B.A I it is 35 % for all categories. The highest percentage of marks for admission of entry level each of the programs is above sixty percentage. The minimum and maximum percentage of marks for admission are similar of this college Is there a mechanism in the institution to review the admission process and student profiles annually? The college has setup admission committees to ensure transparency in the admission process. In admission process, the college strictly adhere to rules and regulations laid down by Govt. of Maharashtra and the University. The college has set-up working committees. The committees arrange various academic programs throughout the year. In order to keep pace with recent developments in the world the college has made available internet facility to the students. The debating contest, multiple choice tests are also organized, specially for catering to the needs of differently - abled students. Care of the physically handicapped students is taken while making classroom allotments. The library also provides special services to such learners by allotting suitable space in study room and reference section Does the institution assess the students needs in terms of knowledge and skills before the commencement of the program If yes, give details on the process. Yes. There is a provision for assessing the student s knowledge and skills before the commencement of the program. The students whose names figure in the merit list of the admission are required to take signature of teacher on admission form. While making signature the teacher conduct a personal interview with the students and garner useful information about the personal needs of the students. In the

If teachers find particular student is weak in basics then the teaching strategies are chalked out. Generally four to five day interaction program with the students is conducted. In this way teacher bridges the knowledge gap of the incoming students to enable them to cope with the subject.
