11 Tips for Parents: Languages: o Read newspapers with your child daily o Highlight useful words / phrases and discuss the meaning with your child o Get your child to write it down in a word bank book and encourage him/her to use the words in his/her assignment o Watch the news with your child so that you can learn new words together o Read a wide range of story books 汉语是全球华人的共同语言, 是中华文化的主要载体 中华文化历史悠久, 博大精深, 传承和学习中华文化可以修身养性, 陶冶情操 Kukuhnya nilai eloklah budi.bahasa Kita. Gunakanlah. 李光耀内阁资政 -Majlis Bahasa Melayu Singapura- ʽய மற ந த மம ழ கள ல தம ழ மம ழ ல ல இன த வத எங க ம க ல ம.ʼ - ரத ய ர Science o Help your child acquire content knowledge by reading widely beyond the textbooks. o Ensure your child improve answering techniques during exams by using scientific concepts to answer their question. E.g In the sentence, Iron rod became bigger when heated and became smaller when cooled, the correct terms to be used should be expanded and contracted respectively. o Make sure they read the questions carefully and follow the given instructions. Highlight key words in the question and use the process of elimination when selecting the best option for the multiple choice answer. o Use Mind Maps / concept maps to link facts and concepts. This helps your child to remember and understand things taught in class. o Help your child sharpen their thinking process skills by advising your child to take their class and practical activities seriously and ask questions in class. o You may encourage your child to try to do some simple experiments at home.
12 Mathematics:. Help your child understand and see the importance and relevance of Mathematics in everyday life. e.g. using the Singapore Power bill to show the amount utilised and the amount to be paid.. Help your child understand the problem sums by engaging them in the problems through: a) asking them to tell you what the problem is about b) letting them explain how they are going to solve it. c) asking questions to help them understand the question. d) getting them to draw diagrams/models to help them visualise as you ask them the questions. 3. Ensure your child show all workings neatly as marks are awarded for correct workings. 4. Make sure that they know -- the formulas -- the multiplication and division tables -- how to convert units of measurement e.g. min = 60s 5. Make sure that your child has daily practice in Mathematics to reinforce the concepts learnt by: -- completing all homework properly, e.g. Koobits Daily Challenges -- revising previously taught topics on a regular basis. -- covering the solutions that they have done before and re-work the sums daily -- practising papers under examination conditions. 6. The more they practice, the better they become. 7. You can set assignment for your child to do. e.g. through Learning Management System and problemsums.koobits.com (links available at school website) [Subject teachers will advise your child on id and password setting. Please note that your child is able to do self-practice even if the teachers did not set any assignments for them.]
