1 You can create quiz questions within Moodle. Questions are created from the Question bank screen. You will also be able to categorize questions and add them to the quiz body. You can crate multiple-choice, short-answer, numerical, matching, random short-answer, matching, description, calculated, essay and embedded answers (Cloze) questions. Each question type has its own form and options. Step 1 Open the Question Bank 1. On the main course screen, in the Administration block, click the Questions link. The Question bank screen is displayed. Step 2 Create a Multiple Choice Question 1. In the Question bank area, in the Create new question drop-down list, select Multiple Choice. The Adding a Multiple Choice Question screen is displayed. University of North Carolina at Charlotte Page 9
2 Step 3 The General Area 1. In the Question name text box, type a descriptive name for the question. The title will be used for tracking purposes, so a good name is important. 2. In the Question text area, type the question. 3. In the Image to display drop-down list, select an image for the question. NOTE: This is optional. 4. In the default question grade text box, type the number of points you will assign for a correct answer. 5. The Penalty factor text box is used if you are running the quiz in adaptive mode. The penalty factor should be a number between 0 and 1. NOTE: A penalty factor of 1 means that the student has to get the answer right in his first response to get any credit at all. A penalty factor of 0 means that student can try as often as they like and still get full credit. 6. In the General feedback text box, type any message you want the students to see. This text will be displayed if you choose for students to review the quiz. 7. In the One or multiple answers drop-down list, specify how many correct answers there are for this question. 8. The Shuffle the choices check box will randomize the answers between students. 9. In the Number of choices drop-down list, select how the answer choices should be labeled. 3 Step 4 The Choice 1 5 Areas 1. In the Choice 1 area, in the Answer text box, type an answer you want students to choose from. 2. In the Grade drop-down list, select the percentage of the total points students will receive if they choose this answer. NOTE: If this is the wrong answer, leave the default of None. If this is the only correct answer, select 100%. 3. In the Feedback area, type the feedback you wish students to see for this response. Feedback will only be displayed if you enable students to review the quiz. 4. Repeat steps in the Choice 2 Choice 5 areas. If you need more choices, click Blanks for 3 More Choices (not illustrated). Step 5 The Overall Feedback Area 1. In the Overall Feedback area, you can provide feedback for any correct, partially correct or incorrect answers. 2. Click Save changes. 4 Step 6 View the Question 1. The question is added to the Question bank. 2. Click the Preview icon to view the question. 3. When you are done previewing the question, close the preview window (not illustrated). University of North Carolina at Charlotte Page 12
5 The following displays the different screens for each question type. Moodle automatically grades all questions types except for Essay. You can override a score or add bonus points to a student s overall score. Step 7 The Calculated Question Screen Calculated questions enable you to create individual numerical questions by the use of wildcards that are substituted with random values when students take the quiz. 6 Step 8 The Description Question Screen The Description question is a way to add information or a label in a quiz. Step 9 The Essay Question Screen This question type is not automatically graded. Until your grade the question, the students receive 0 points for the question. To grade an essay question, on the Results section for the quiz, select the Manual Grading tab. 8 Step 11 The Embedded Answers (Cloze) Question Screen Embedded answers (Cloze) questions contain a passage of text (in Moodle format) that has various answers embedded within it, including multiple choice, short answers and numerical answers. University of North Carolina at Charlotte Page 16
9 Step 12 The Short Answer Question Screen Short answer questions enable you to accept a word or phrase as the answer. The General area is the same as for multiple choice questions. University of North Carolina at Charlotte Page 17

11 Step 14 The Random-Short Answer Matching Screen The Random-Short Answer Matching question resembles a matching question type. The difference is that the random-short answer matching enables you to have sub-questions. University of North Carolina at Charlotte Page 19
