5 Unit 1: Kinds of Nouns Name: Date: Unit 1: Kinds of Nouns Tip A proper noun names a particular person, place, idea, or thing. Proper nouns begin with a capital letter. All other nouns are common nouns. Directions: Underline all nouns in the following sentences. Circle any letters that should be capitalized. 1. Kayla, give that book to your teacher, please. 2. atlanta and detroit are cities I would like to visit. 3. washington, d.c., is the capital of the united states. 4. Tip A concrete noun names something that is felt with the senses. An abstract noun names a quality, idea, or state of mind. Example: The tourists at Disney World wait with anticipation.
