Course requirements in FBE Course enrolment with timetable conflicts is NOT allowed Every class has a quota restriction. Students successful declaration of a major/minor offered by FBE will NOT guarantee them a place in the courses to fulfill the major/minor requirement
Course requirements in FBE You have to fulfill the pre-requisite requirements of a particular course before moving on to the subsequent course E.g., ACCT1101 FINA1310 (obtain a pass for this pre-requisite course) (the subsequent course) You are NOT permitted to enroll in courses that are mutually exclusive, i.e., courses where significant portions of the course contents overlap with each other. E.g., ECON1280 STAT1601, STAT1603, STAT2601 E.g., FINA2322 ISME4110, MATH3906, STAT3618, STAT3910 You are required to take disciplinary electives in lieu of the mutually exclusive courses
Double-counting courses Courses shall NOT be double-counted Where a course applies to more than one major or minor programme, a disciplinary elective (advanced level) must be taken in lieu of the doublecounted course
Double-counting courses example: Student with a 1 st major in Risk Management offered by the Faculty of Science wishes to declare his 2 nd major in Economics. Double-counting courses: MATH1013 and STAT2601 Major in Risk Management - Compulsory junior level courses Major in Economics- Compulsory junior level courses MATH1013 SCNC1111 SCNC1112 STAT1600 STAT2601 STAT2602 STAT2603 ACCT1101 ECON1210 ECON1220 FINA1310 ECON1280 or STAT1601or STAT1603 or STAT2601 MATH1011 or MATH1013
Double-counting courses example: If student has taken MATH1013 and STAT2601 to fulfill the requirements of his major in Risk Management, the 2 courses CANNOT be doublecounted and CANNOT be used to fulfill the requirements of his 2 nd major in Economics Because of the mutually exclusive principle, student CANNOT take the following courses either: MATH1011 (mutually exclusive of MATH1013) ECON1280 STAT1601 mutually exclusive of STAT2601 STAT1603
Double-counting courses example: The student MUST take two Economics elective courses (advanced level) in lieu of MATH1013 and STAT2601 Major in Risk Management - Compulsory junior level courses MATH1013 SCNC1111 SCNC1112 STAT1600 STAT2601 STAT2602 STAT2603 Major in Economics- Compulsory junior level courses ACCT1101 ECON1210 ECON1220 FINA1310 ECON1280 or STAT1601or STAT1603 or STAT2601 ECON Elective (Advanced level) MATH1011 or MATH1013 ECON Elective (Advanced level)
