10 PROGRAM OVERVIEW The FHSU Teacher Residency is designed to complete the last 2 years of a 4-year bachelor's degree. If you already have a bachelor's degree in something other than education or you have completed most of your general education courses, you may be ready to apply for a residency cohort.

11 BENEFITS OF THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education Full 2 years of field experience in schools located in the communities where residents live Cohort of residents who learn together and support one another Full-time advisor who provides academic counseling and enrollment support University professors dedicated to teaching and mentoring their cohorts Ability to continue earning a paycheck while earning a degree

12 Who should apply to the FHSU Teacher Residency? College sophomores and juniors who have completed most general education requirements and some introductory education courses Individuals who have an earned Bachelor's degrees and want to change careers Community college students who are working on or have completed Associate's degrees in education Paraprofessionals who want to take the next step to become teachers

13 Your work:.75% as a school employee.25% as a FHSU student (10 hrs. / week) Student Teaching:.50% as a school employee.50% as a FHSU student teacher

14 Requirement You must maintain your employment during the residency program.

15 Courses: hour block each semester (3 semesters) 1 semester of student teaching

16 Course Design the individual courses are interwoven as one master course multiple content areas, theory and practice Every assignment requires residents to collaborate and consult with teachers and administrators in their school district. Residents complete real tasks with real students in real classrooms. Weekly cohort meetings moderated by FHSU faculty give residents the opportunity to reflect on their performance and support each other with advice and critique.

18 Eligibility Requirements (Fall 2016) Apply for admission to FHSU by January 15th, 2016 Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher Meet requirements and apply for admission to the FHSU Department of Teacher Education by February 15th, 2016 Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or able to work legally in the U.S.

21 Advanced Education Programs Department Alternative Licensure Program (T2T Program)

22 What is the T2T program? 1. A two year graduate level program 2. Twenty-two hours online and two hours (four days) on campus. Successful completion of these hours qualifies the candidate for an Initial Teaching License. 3. The candidate can take an additional 12 hours and pass a comprehensive exam to earn and MSE degree.

23 Eligibility: 1. Individuals with a Bachelor s, or higher degree 2. Eligible for a KSDE Restricted Teaching License 3. Have a 2.75, or higher, GPA on the last 60 hours 4. Have an offer of employment from an accredited Kansas school 5. Obtain a passing score on the subject area Praxis Test 6. Complete a supervised practical Training Experience

24 First Step: Have Kerry Schuckman or Sherry Spangler review your transcript to determine eligibility for a Restricted License Second Step: Secure a teaching job offer Third Step: Apply to the FSHU Graduate School (online)

25 Program Requirements: 1.Make adequate progress each semester/year 2.Earn a grade of C or better in each program course 3.Maintain a 3.00 GPA in the program 4.Obtain a passing score on the PLT test by the end of the program 5.Obtain a passing score on the Kansas Teaching Performance Portfolio for Licensure
