2 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BANKING AND FINANCE: ACCOUNTING SPECIALIZATION MISSION The EIBFS BSc in Banking and Finance: Specialization in Accounting aims to offer a high quality specialized learning involving students in a continuous process of learning that helps them to develop, grow, and establish a well-grounded career in the corporate / nancial sectors, with the help and support of a well-quali ed staff, who are capable of balancing and integrating theory and practice in the best educational environment conducive to learning. The BSc in Banking and Finance: Specialization in Accounting prepares students to succeed in various accounting careers in corporate accounting, public accounting, governmental accounting, & not-for-pro t accounting. Students gain the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and research skills needed to address complex accounting issues OBJECTIVES 1. The primary objective of the BSc in Banking and Finance: Specialization in Accounting degree is to train professionals with suf cient skills to undertake management, advisory and directorship roles in the private and public sector, in insurance, banking and stock market companies, and in directorship and managerial roles related to business or the coordination of resources. 2. This specialisation enables professionals to provide specialised services in handling and interpreting accounting systems and nancial systems, in managing operations related to nancial companies and markets, or in management accounting. 3. Their skills will enable them to identify and anticipate market and sector opportunities, allocate resources, manage information, select and train personnel, and make the necessary decisions to achieve the goals of the institution in which they are employed. All four major skills areas reading, writing, speaking and listening are covered and are presented in the context of the business world. MGT100 Financial Mathematics This course introduces students to the basic arithmetical operations and provides a good understanding of the numerical operations, averages, ratios, percentages, simple and compound interest, algebraic equations, exponents, time value of money and bank discounts. This course will be extremely useful for the students to lay a strong foundation for nancial transactions, as well as will help them to understand various nancial products. It will also improve students' analytical skills in simpli cation of algebraic equations, fraction, decimals, exponents and roots, ratios, percentages and linear equations. BNG210 Banking & Business Law The course introduces the students to the legal principles and the legal environment of business in the UAE. Topics include important principles of law relating to contracts and agency, banker- customer relationships, regulatory framework of banks and forms of business organization. CSE100 Computer Applications in Business Computer Applications in Business provides an overview of the integrated software packages most often used in the workplace. By the end of this course, you will have a sound understanding of the basic features and business applications for the word processor, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software in your choice

3 GEN120 Islamic Thought & Culture The purpose of this course is to provide the students with the necessary knowledge of Islamic thought and culture and contemporary issues. The course is designed to develop a better understanding of Islamic belief and its relevance in modern life. It focuses on current modern issues and challenges, social and economic systems in the light of Islam and how to solve those issues in accordance with Islam. The GEN130 Contemporary Environmental Issues This course introduces the major global environmental issues and links them to contemporary socioeconomic and political considerations while maintaining a geographical perspective. During the course we will examine many of the current major global environmental issues related to the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and the biosphere as well as looking at major threats posed by the environment itself in the form of natural hazards. In addition, the issue of the nuclear threat and the ever-increasing demand for alternative renewable energy are explored. The course will touch on the matter of sustained development and intelligent management of the planet for this and future generations. In addition, the course will examine in more detail particular aspects of issues related to global atmospheric change, impacts on water resources, impacts on the earth's surface and hazards posed by the natural environment. ACC100 Principles of Accounting This course is aimed at people with no or limited prior accounting knowledge and provides an understanding of how nancial statements are prepared for various types of organizations. MGT100 Business Communications English for Business and Administrative Communication is designed to teach students how to think critically, communicate effectively, and improve written and oral business communication skills by addressing and discussing real world examples and real business applications. MGT110 Principles of Management Introduce to students the management and highlight the power of innovation in the workplace. Familiarize the process of management with a focus on active planning, leading, organizing and controlling. Examine today's emerging management and customer service topics, from the impact of technology and importance of a green business environment to ethical challenges and the need to adapt in changing times. GEN140 Calculus I students the fundamental theory of Calculus. Speci cally it refers to the various aspects of calculus and various tools which can be of immense use in the process of learning Finance and various other courses from allied areas. Its aim is to achieve a balance among the computational skills, theory and applications of Calculus, while keeping the level suitable for beginning students. Calculus I has wide applications in the areas of Finance and Banking and various other areas of Management in corporate world. IBNG200 Banking Theory & Practice This course is the rst leg of the Banking Theory & Practice two-tier course. This course provides the students with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of banking concepts. It will introduce students to the world of banking by looking at the industry both from a historical and present day perspective. The course will help the students to examine, how the focus in banking has shifted from a historical product-driven focus to a customerdriven focus and the ways in which banking is using multiple channels to service customers rather than relying solely on banking of ces. It will also provide insight into electronic banking channels being employed by the banks to communicate with their customers and how the banking globally has transformed from traditional branch banking to E-banking based on internet, using computers and smart phones. The course will ensure that the students are able to understand the core and the most important theoretical banking concepts and functions and proceed to understand the second leg of the banking theory & practice course. MGT 200 Micro-economics This course aims to introduce to students the challenges of economics; concepts of scarcity and choice, and their in uences in the decision-making process of individual consumers, and rms. The students will learn to apply an analytical approach to the study of how individuals and societies deal with the fundamental problem of scarce resources. The course examines: price mechanism (demand, supply and price) and allocation of resources; market structure and competition; the theory of the rm short run and long run cost/revenue structure and the interaction between markets; and labor market. The course thus outlines the business environment from an economic viewpoint covering principles of microeconomics. MGT210 Business Statistics The course focuses to introductory survey on statistical concepts and to integrate this with business application. Today it is essential to have skills to deal with large number of data in business, and this enlarges the scope of study. The course provides good understanding of all basic statistical concepts, correlation and regression, testing of hypotheses, which are illustrated with solved examples. GEN200 Introduction to Psychology This is a course covering topics such as human psychology and biological bases of behavior, perception, motivation and emotion; learning and memory; development; intelligence; personality; mental disturbance; and social in uence. Psychology can be de ned as the scienti c study of mental processes

4 and behavior. Other specialties within the eld include, to name a few, physiological, social, organizational, and developmental psychology. Thus, this course will serve as an overview of the major elds within psychology with an emphasis on developing an understanding of psychology as the science of human thought and behavior. We will also learn to critically evaluate "common sense" knowledge about how people function. GEN210 Calculus II students the fundamental theory of Calculus. Speci cally it refers to the various aspects of calculus and various tools which can be of immense use in the process of learning Finance and various other courses from allied areas. Its aim is to achieve a balance among the computational skills, theory and applications of Calculus, while keeping the level suitable for beginning students. Calculus II has wide applications in the areas of Finance and Banking and various other areas of Management in corporate world. MGT220 Speech and Oral Business Communications in English Speech and Oral Business Communication is a specialized course stemming from Business Communication. In this course, students will focus on aspects of formal oral rhetoric. They will become familiar with various types of verbal communication skills and presentations competencies ultimately fostering in them the ability to inform, persuade, and call to action, among others. Finally, students will learn techniques for facilitating appropriate enunciation and intonation thereby enhancing their intended message. ACC200 Financial Statement Analysis The course provides a conceptual framework of Financial Statement Analysis at the advanced level. Analysis of the Financial Statements of the companies and see the effect of using different accounting and quantitative analysis tools on the nancial analysis and on the cash ow analysis. Topics include: Understanding Balance Sheet and Income Statement, Preparing Cash Flow Statement by using different methods and types of off balance sheet nancing. MGT230 Macro-economics The course on macroeconomics is designed to provide students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to an economic system as a whole. The course places particular emphasis on the study of national income; employment, in ation, monetary and scal policies, economic growth and international trade. The course thus introduces students to the major theoretical and practical considerations of macroeconomic models, as well as the scal and monetary policies. MGT240 Organizational Behavior This course aims to enhance the student's understanding of organizational behavior, through introducing him to the main aspects of the behavior of people in organizations at the individual, group, and organizational levels. Topics taught in this course include: Personality and Individual behaviors, values, the perceptual process, learning in organizations, workplace attitudes, motivation in the work place, team dynamics, decision-making and creativity, leadership in organizational settings and organizational change and development. FIN300 Business Finance students the modern fundamental theory of nance. Speci cally it refers to the issues faced by the modern day company in the management of its nancial function. This course is designed for both nance and non- nance major student. BNG300 Banking Theory & Practice II This course is the second leg of the Banking Theory & Practice-I course and will stress on how to put banking theory into practice and provide real-world examples of the ideas introduced throughout the duration of the course. The course uses ve core principles as the basis for understanding concepts. These principles enable students to focus on the big picture, and therefore learn the rationale for banking and nancial rules and institutional structure. The course will ensure that the students are able to retain and apply the most important theoretical banking concepts in practice. MGT300 Management Information Systems The purpose of this course is to provide the fundamentals associated with the management of information technology in a business enterprise. These fundamentals are business concepts in which the in uence of information technology has caused change or brought about new concepts. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the managerial issues that are relevant to usage of computers. The student will be given problems isolating these issues and will be asked to propose solutions with alternatives. The course also provides an Overview of fundamental MIS concepts, using integrated framework for Decision Making and Analyzing Information Systems. The course is comprised of different types of Information Systems available for Business use in Decision Making and Business Processes, covering Competitive Advantage, Executive Information Systems, Decision Support Systems and Expert Systems. GEN300 Linear Algebra students the fundamental theory of Linear Algebra. Speci cally it refers to the various aspects of Linear Algebra and various tools which can be of immense use in the process of learning Finance and various other courses from allied areas. Its aim is to achieve a balance among the computational skills, theory and applications of Linear Algebra, while keeping the level suitable for beginning students. Linear Algebra has wide applications in the areas of Finance and Banking and various other areas of Management in corporate world.

5 MGT310 Technical Writing for Bank & Financial Services Technical Writing is a specialized course stemming from Business Communication. In this course, students will focus on aspects of formal written rhetoric. They will become familiar with types of written communication present in a professional context. As a result of this course, students will learn techniques for planning, drafting, editing, and nalizing documents, ensuring cohesion, coherency, parallelism, and unambiguous diction. BNG310 Islamic Banking The course familiarizes the students with the fundamental principles of Islamic banking and nance and outlines the structure of major products and services offered by Islamic banks in the UAE.An important feature of the course is its emphasis on highlighting the use of various Islamic contracts for structuring products and services in modern nance. ACC300 International Financial Reporting Standards The course presents International Financial Reporting Standards and considers comparisons between the two commonly applied sets of accounting standards in the world (the US GAAP and IFRS). The aim of the course is to develop of a critical thinking approach to nancial accounting and reporting. The objective of this course is to invite the student to better understand the links between the underlying transactions, their reporting standards applications, and the nancial reports from an international perspective. This course will equip the students with basic understandings of IFRS, a relatively new set of accounting standards being widely accepted globally and being considered for adoption in the US. MGT320 Operations Management This course focuses on the topics and principles that answer the question how are operations managed. Topics covered include operations strategy for competitive advantage, forecasting, quality, aggregate planning and project management. MGT330 International Economics The purpose of this course is to provide students with adequate theoretical, empirical and policy base required for the understanding of key issues of International Economics. The course aims to help students understand the basics of international trade and nance and the effects of various international economic policies on domestic and world welfare. Major parts of this course are: Introduction to International trade, International trade models; Free trade VS protection; The balance of payments; Exchange rate theories; international banking and International monetary standards. MGT340 Business Practices in UAE & GCC The course presents an integrated view of both established and entrepreneurial business organizations by studying their common processes and characteristics. The course introduces theory and develops basic skills in the areas of Business practices. MGT350 Research Methodology This course introduces students to a number of research methods useful for academic and professional investigations of information practices, texts and technologies. By examining the applications, strengths and major criticisms of methodologies drawn from both the qualitative and quantitative traditions, this course permits an understanding of the various decisions and steps involved in crafting (and executing) a research methodology, as well as a critically informed assessment of published research. MGT400 Financial Markets & Central Bank System Financial Markets and Central Bank System connects Financial Markets with key elements of Monetary Policy (or what is popularly known as the Federal Reserve System). While the major focus of this course is to familiarize students with nancial instruments and their return characteristics, this course will show how theoretical and empirical underpinnings of Monetary Policy provides ways to analyze the change in asset prices. BNG400 Bank Management & Financial Services This course aims to provide students an insight into the functioning of the Banks and FIs (Financial Intermediaries). With nancialization of the Global Economy, Banks and other FIs ( nancial intermediaries) have played an increasingly dominant role in the creation of credit and new nancial services that have had farreaching implications in every walk of our lives. Therefore an understanding of how banks and other nancial intermediaries are managed is extremely important for insights into the workings of the Global Economy. FIN400 Investment & Portfolio Management This course begins by describing the investment environment, the various developments in investment theory, and the principles and practices of valuation. Major topics include estimation of capital market parameters, trade-off between risk and return, optimal portfolio selection, equilibrium asset pricing models, and delegated portfolio management. BNG410 Investment Banking The Financial services industry is expanding day by day with many new and innovative services. Investment Banking services complement and at times compete with banking services. The course is designed to provide an in-depth study of such para-banking services, the knowledge of which is a must for a modern day banker. MGT410 Business Strategies This is the capstone course for the BSc Program and should be taken in the student's nal term. Students learn to systematically analyze a rm's internal and external environments and to apply concepts and theories related to the formulation and implementation of business-level and corporate-level strategies. The in uence of other functional areas (marketing, nance,

6 accounting, etc.) on strategic thinking is emphasized in teaching students the linkage between strategic problems, management interpretations, solutions, and rm performance. BNG420 Bank Risk Management This course aims to introduce students the nancial services industry; mainly the unique nature of its nancial statements and the risks that are faced by banks. Considering the effects of poor risk management on the failure of banks. The importance of risk management in banks is becoming the most important function in bank nancial management. This course enables the students to identify the different risks faced by banks and how to calculate them then how to manage those risks. Also it introduces them to the international regulations and its developments throughout the last decade and enables them to assess the compliance issues banks should keep. FIN410 Derivatives Financial Derivatives is an advanced unit in Finance. It covers that branch of nance which deals with in depth structures of nancial instruments, pricing and risk management techniques of such tools, and foundations to equip students to pursue nancial market careers in derivatives. Financial Derivatives is an important and one of the most challenging courses for those pursuing careers in international nance. It will help you understand the world in which you live, it will enable you to be a rigorous and informed investor in today's ever challenging economy and it will give you the tools for better informed investment decisions eventually. BNG430 Marketing Financial Services Key topics include: trends in the nancial services sector; environmental factors that impact marketing management in this industry; product development; pricing; distribution channels and the impact of technology; sales and sales management; customer loyalty and retention; relationship marketing and strategic planning. PRJ400 Supervised Internship The integration activity incorporates the key concepts taught in the BSc program courses, allowing students to apply their understanding of the indus- try, skills and knowledge in a comprehensive project. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Applications are welcomed from bankers and non-bankers. Students who have completed the Diploma in Banking or Diploma in Islamic Banking may get credit transfer of common subjects with minimum score of 70% Admission is granted according to the general policy of the Institute and the directives of the Board of Directors The applicant should hold a High School Certi cate, or its equivalent, with minimum score of 60% The applicant must have a valid English language TOEFL score of 173 (CBT) or 61 (ibt) or academic IELTS Academic 5.0 overall or another standardized, internationally recognized test that is approved by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) EIBFS offers IELTS coaching classes to students who have not met the above requirement.
