2 From the Director Dear students, parents, and families, The Ongoing Academic and Social Instructional Support (OASIS) program at Pace University offers one of the most comprehensive college support programs for students with learning differences. The program welcomes all qualified students with learning differences who would like to fulfill their dream of a college education. We offer academic and social/emotional support while helping students realize their dream of obtaining a BA or BS at a well-known and accredited university. All students seeking support are admitted to the University by the standards set for all applicants. As a Pace student first, OASIS provides the support for their pathway to independence. Internships and employment-ready workshops are part of the experience for all juniors and seniors in the program. A true college experience is more than just the completion of coursework. It is a time for students to grow, make friends, and develop skills to succeed not just in the workplace, but in life. The OASIS program at Pace University is designed to do just that. This has been the best academic year of my student s life. 3 OASIS is a comprehensive support program for college students with high-functioning autism and other learning differences. Each student s OASIS team is composed of the following support staff: Academic coach: meets with Housing coordinator: meets with Model UN is a life-changing experience. While accommodations in courses are provided, the work is not modified and remains at the college level. Each year, OASIS students achieve an average combined GPA of 3.0 or higher. Spotlight: David Sharif 19 A political science major and peace and justice studies minor, David Sharif is gaining hands-on experience as a delegate for Pace s Model UN team. 4 The Pace Path All students at Pace benefit from the Pace Path a unique combination of strong academics, real-world experiences, dedicated mentors, and customized goal setting/four-year plan. Through this program, students gain a broad range of soft skills problem solving, decision making, leadership, teamwork, adaptability, time management, and communication essential for fulfilling careers and lives. Employment Readiness The OASIS program is dedicated to building the skills necessary for independence and self-sustenance after completing their college degrees. To that end, OASIS has developed an internship/career model for junior and senior level students. Through partnerships with outside agencies, students have benefitted from employment ready workshops, interviews, and even paid summer internships. Sophomores are involved in the initial stages exploring strengths and interests, building resumes, and participating in mock interviews. 65+ undergraduate majors on Pace s NYC Campus Frequently Asked Questions Are there special application requirements? All interested applicants must meet the admissions requirements for Pace University. Applications for OASIS can be completed simultaneously. Personal interviews with the OASIS team are conducted. A current neuropsychological evaluation is required to assess specific needs. Is there a fee for the program? Yes, the fee is paid each semester. Is the coursework modified? No. Accommodations specified in the neuropsychological evaluation are provided, but coursework expectations are the same for all students at the University. What happens if the OASIS student is having academic or social problems? One-on-one coaching is provided to assist with academic programs. A social coordinator plans weekly events for social interaction. Social workers are also available to help students transition into the Pace population. Will other students know whether or not someone is an OASIS student? All OASIS students are guaranteed confidentiality and anonymity. Choosing to disclose is a personal decision. How many students are in the program? On average, there are OASIS participants. How does dorm life work? OASIS has a housing coordinator to assist with transition into dorm life. Students may or may not select an OASIS student for a roommate. What happens after college? The OASIS program has an internship/career counselor to help students develop work readiness skills.
