OUR DATA S attachd: Appndix A Tsting Cntr Data Appndix B Longitudinal Rport OUR STORY In th 1970 s, a group of Purdu studnts pionrd a movmnt at Purdu to incras disability accssibility on campus. Th Rhabilitation Act of 1973, prohibiting discrimination basd on disability in programs supportd by fdral agncis, gav studnts th foundation to propos that changs b mad to incras physical accss. s includd ramps, curb cuts, nw lvators, additional accssibl sating and rstrooms in athltic facilitis, and incrasd numbrs of handicap-accssibl parking spots. In 1987, Dr. Btty Nlson bcam th Purdu Univrsity Dan of Studnts. As Dan, Dr. Nlson hlpd stablish Purdu s first Disability Rsourc Cntr. In 1990, th Amricans with Disabilitis Act bcam law. Univrsitis must mak rasonabl accommodations in ordr to provid studnts with disabilitis an qual opportunity to participat in courss, programs, and activitis. This includs xtracurricular activitis. Ths accommodations includ acadmic adjustmnts or modifications such as xtndd tim for tst taking or complting cours work; substitution of spcific courss to mt dgr 3 P a g

4 rquirmnts; modification of tst taking or prformanc valuations. Accommodations can also tak th shap of auxiliary aids and srvics such as qualifid sign languag intrprtrs, not takrs, radrs, braill, larg print, and lctronic formats of print matrials, (-txt) and adaptiv quipmnt. Th mission of th Purdu Disability Rsourc Cntr (DRC) today is to nsur qualifid studnts with disabilitis (long-trm or short-trm) qual accss to all Univrsity programs, srvics, and activitis. Th DRC supports studnts with disabilitis by coordinating rasonabl and appropriat accommodations, ducating th Univrsity community about disability issus and rights, and promoting an informd and inclusiv campus nvironmnt that activly addrsss individual and institutional barrirs. YEARLY CYCLE & TIMELINE Studnts rqusting accommodations must idntify thmslvs to th offic and provid documntation of thir disability. Studnts may slf-idntify at any tim during th yar. Basd on documntation and information providd by studnts, a profssional judgmnt is mad to dtrmin whthr or not studnts ar ligibl to rciv acadmic adjustmnts and auxiliary aids. Studnts who ar dmd ligibl for srvics ar thn rgistrd with th DRC. Acadmic adjustmnts and auxiliary aids and srvics ar dtrmind on a cas-by-cas basis. 5 OPPORTUNITIES FOR FUNDRAISING AND DEVELOPMENT Gnral opportunitis: DRC is planning to mov to a mor accssibl, mor cntral location to bttr srv our studnts. Futur growth: Studnts DRC has xprincd 65 studnt growth ovr th past fiv yars. DRC Tsting Cntr has xprincd consistnt growth vry smstr in accommodatd tsting in our Cntr sinc whn th Cntr opnd. Futur growth: Staff Th utilization of -txt and othr altrnativ formats by studnts has incrasd, strtching th rsourcs of th two full tim altrnativ formats staff mmbrs. Although tmporary staff and studnt workrs wr hird to hlp fill th gap, this is a tmporary solution, with its own drawbacks. Training tmporary altrnativ formats workrs is tim intnsiv and studnts oftn only stay for a smstr. Studnt and tmporary workrs cannot complt mor tchnical, complicatd altrnativ formats tasks such as crating tactil diagrams. In th coming yar, thr will b a budgt proposal for a nw altrnativ formats staff mmbr.
