At Brook Acre we are working to lay the foundation for life through preparing, encouraging, supporting and respecting our children, their families and the wider community. Enthusiasm, dedication and energy are essential qualities for a practitioner at our school, as is the ability to build good relationships with the pupils and staff within school and to deal professionally and sensitively with parents. We are looking to build on the high quality of provision and successes currently within school to ensure truly outstanding education is offered for all, preparing our pupils well for the next stage of their education. We are looking for an excellent primary practitioner with: a clear understanding and vision for excellent education; strong class management and first class organisational skills; an awareness of what constitutes an effective, aesthetically and educationally stimulating classroom environment; strong professional and personal relationship skills to join our extremely positive, hard working, supportive and united team of teaching and non-teaching staff; high expectations of all pupils, themselves and their colleagues; the ability to reflect on their own practice, embracing change and striving for improvement; sound understanding of planning and assessment strategies; the ability to set clear, developmental learning targets for all pupils to help raise levels of attainment; a desire to provide an imaginative, creative and carefully planned curriculum to enrich the lives of all of our pupils; a belief that there should be no ceiling to the potential of any child and holding the belief that truly incredible progress can become the norm. This contract is full-time initially for 12 months as our as either a Year 1 or a Year 5 class teacher, but it is possible that the contract may be extended and may become permanent. It is suitable for a newly qualified teacher, a recently qualified teacher or an experienced teacher with the drive, understanding and commitment to make a real difference at our school.

6 BROOK ACRE COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL CLASS TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Salary Grade: Class Teacher See Annual Statement of a Classroom Teacher s Salary Date: September 2017 Purpose: To teach pupils within the school and to carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Headteacher. Employment Duties: This job description is to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of the duties set out in that document so far as relevant to the postholder s title and salary grade. The post is also subject to locally agreed conditions of employment to the extent that they are incorporated in the postholder s individual contract of employment. Copies of the relevant documents are available for inspection at the school. Relationships: The postholder is responsible to the Headteacher for her teaching duties and responsibilities for the teaching tasks. The postholder interacts on a professional level with colleagues and seeks to establish and maintain productive relationships with them in order to promote mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school. The postholder is responsible for the deployment and supervision of the work of classroom assistants relevant to his/her responsibilities. Particular Responsibilities: The particular responsibilities attaching to the post of class teacher are as follows: a) to teach, according to their educational needs, pupils assigned to her in the allocated class; b) to plan and implement a full and varied curriculum; c) to control and oversee the use and storage of books and other teaching materials provided for class usage and to deploy and supervise the work of classroom assistant(s) relevant to the class; d) to manage pupil behaviour in accordance with the behaviour policy and systems of the school; e) to contribute to meetings, discussions and management systems necessary to co-ordinate the work of the school as a whole;

8 School Information Some factual details about our school: Brook Acre Community Primary School is part of Warrington Children s Services. We are a one form entry school with an additional 52 place nursery split into 2 sessions. We have been oversubscribed on entry into the Reception year, for the last 4 years. We have an oversized cohort of 45 pupils in our current year 4 and as a result have an extra class and additional teacher in our Key Stage 2 to accommodate the extra pupils. Current Number on Roll is 266. The school is situated in extensive and attractive grounds that have been developed for play and curriculum activities that lead to active and successful playtimes and extensive opportunity for outdoor learning. The main building is split into individual classrooms, with a hall, and an additional shared room, Chill and Chat. The school received a Good outcome, with outstanding behaviour and safety at the last inspection in October 2013 (report available on the OfSTED website). We are well on our way to securing outstanding overall at our next OFSTED inspection. S.E.N.D. - At present, 30% of our children are logged at SENS (SEN Support) or higher. Teachers and support staff are well supported by the Inclusion Co-ordinator, and all work closely with outside agencies to accurately meet the needs of children with additional needs and remove barriers in order to accelerate the progress of all pupils. Approximately 65% of our pupils are currently, or have recently been, eligible for Free School Meals. 9 We currently have 13 full-time and 1 part-time, Teaching Assistants. They are a highly skilled and very effective team who support children and teachers throughout the school to aid their acquisition of basic skills, accelerate progress and to support the emotional, social and behavioural development of each child. Mrs D Dobson is our safeguarding manager, working closely with families and external agencies to monitor and support good safeguarding practice throughout the school. The school s development: This is an exciting time in the life of Brook Acre Community Primary School. There is a committed team of staff who work hard to provide the best possible educational advantages for children, many of whom have experienced social deprivation. We, as a team, strive to forge strong links with parents and the wider community. Parents are regularly invited to be a part of our school life, whether it s coming in to see a maths or phonics lesson, joining us on a trip out of school, coming to watch a performance or celebration event or simply coming to join their child for lunchtime. Parent contributions are truly valued and enable shared working in the best interests of every child. We offer an exciting curriculum for our pupils. We encourage an atmosphere of risk taking, challenge and flexibility within classrooms, developing skills of individual resilience in order for children to learn-to-learn and to drive and accelerate the progress of all pupils. Teachers plan their own Learning Journeys in consultation with the children, who really steer their journey as their interests are captured and ideas are developed. Hooks, curriculum enrichment and out of school visits form a key part of each Learning Journey to ensure true engagement within each topic area. The Orchard Children s Centre is on the same site as the school and provides a range of services for families and children. It supports strong links between the school and the Neighbourhood Nursery on site. Birch Grove Day Nursery operates daily, providing childcare and a link club on site. Numbers on roll have grown steadily during recent years and are maintained as the school has become a hub of the local community. There is an emphasis on physical well-being, with PE allocation of at least 2 hours per week. A significant number of the extra-curricular activities on offer are related to PE and all year groups will have access to specialist gymnastics teaching throughout this academic year. Staff also work alongside High School sports leaders and external companies to develop skills across the PE curriculum and enhance the quality of physical education offered. We have high expectations for attitudes and behaviour throughout the school with an ethos of mutual respect instilled within a purposeful and supportive learning environment. We are a united team where the children, staff and parents form a close-knit family in which we all truly care about the success and well-being of each individual, with high expectations permeating throughout.
