Day 3 Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa Sigiriya (approx. 112km day) After breakfast you will visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress which is a world heritage site, was built by King Kashyapa in AD. The Lion Rock is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200m from the jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the Heavenly Maidens of Sigiriya. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster. This afternoon enjoy a tour of Polonnaruwa. The city of Polonnaruwa, a medieval capital & the crown jewel of King Parakramabahu I, is proof of ancient culture & heritage blended with religious beliefs. Walk across the scattered walls of this World Heritage Site - blessed by stupas, resting Buddha statues, irrigation canals and fantastically carved Hindu sculptures - while observing the relic house - Watadage - which boasts of beautiful stone carvings. Habarana Village by Cinnamon, Sigiriya Day 4 Sigiriya - Dambulla - Matale - Kandy (approx. 90km day) After breakfast proceed to Dambulla to visit the Rock Cave Temple. Surrounded by hills and tea plantations, the town of Nuwara Eliya enjoys spring like weather throughout the year. A favourite retreat of the British during colonial times, the town is dotted with English country style houses and half-timbered bungalows, with names like Sunhill Cottage or Windsor Hotel. So it s no surprise it s earned the name Little England. The Blackpool Hotel, Nuwara Eliya Day 7 Nuwara Eliya Tissamaharama - Yala (approx. 145km day) After breakfast depart for Yala. In the afternoon visit Yala National Park. Spreading a vast 1259km2 and encompassing vast grasslands, shrubs and dunes, Yala is rightfully the heartland of wildlife in Sri Lanka. Jetwing Yala, Yala Day 8 Yala Galle (approx. 170km day) After breakfast depart for Galle. Upon arrival in Galle enjoy a sightseeing tour. Galle has also made a name for itself for its intricate lace and ebony carvings. Enjoy lunch in Galle Fort (not included). Journey through tunnels of shady mangroves swaying alongside the Madu River - hiding an ecological treasure. Witness the tranquillity of this bio-diversity hot spot which boasts of reptiles, mollusks and over 70 species of fresh water fish. Today the region - which is strong in observing rural folk life on the island - does not only boast of cinnamon plantations in abundance, but also has a fine fish pedicure centre - one of the most potent & latest rejuvenation techniques. Apart from these amenities Balapitiya has also become a household name in the minds of bird watchers ensuring a thrilling offshore experience. Afterwards contin ue to Ambalangoda Mask Factory s ancestral home. Mask making is a popular tradition in Sri Lanka. Return to the hotel. Amari Galle, Galle Day 10 Galle Colombo (approx. 128km day) After breakfast depart for Colombo. On arrival in Colombo, you will enjoy a city tour.
