1 BRIEFING ON DSA-SEC AND S1 POSTING PROCESSES 24 October 2018 WHAT ARE THESE 2 PROCESSES? 2 separate processes to allow P6 students to make their secondary school choices and for HQ to process all the choices. DSA-Sec process / exercise This process only applies to students who have applied for a sec school during DSA and have received a Confirmed Offer (CO) or a Waiting List (WL) offer from a DSA sec sch. S1-Posting process / exercise It applies to students who have not applied for a secondary school during DSA. Also applies to students who have applied for a DSA school but was unsuccessful in securing a place during DSA. 1

2 DSA-SEC PROCESS / EXERCISE Students given CO are guaranteed a place in the school, provided o Student submits preference for the school, and o Student s PSLE results meet eligibility criteria for courses offered by the school [i.e. Express or N(A) or N(T)] Students given WL Offer will get a place in the school, provided o Student submits preference for the school, and o Student s PSLE results meet eligibility criteria for courses offered by the school [i.e. Express or N(A) or N(T)], and o Vacancies available due to students with CO not taking up the vacancies (e.g. students given CO did not opt for the school) *Students rank higher in the waitlist have priority for allocation. 4 DSA-SEC PROCESS / EXERCISE Submission through Primary School Bring Completed hardcopy School Preference Form to our school Timings : from 29 Oct 2018, 9am to 2 Nov 2018, 3pm (Singapore Time) Our school can assist in keying in the choices in the internet system and will print a copy of the verification slip for you. DSA-SEC PROCESS / EXERCISE Successful DSA Sec students are not allowed - to participate and opt for schools in S1 Posting Exercise, but may indicate course option and/or Third Language option, if eligible. - to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. They are expected to honour the commitment to the posted DSA school for the duration of the programme admitted to. Unsuccessful DSA students will receive S1 Option Form, informing them of unsuccessful DSA allocation. Students will participate in S1 Posting Exercise to opt for their choices of schools.. 4

5 S1-POSTING PROCESS / EXERCISE Btw 22 to 26 Nov (tentative dates) Timeline Release of PSLE Results With 7 calendars or Students to submit their sec school 5 working days choices via S1 Internet System 19 Dec Release of S1 posting results 20 Dec Report at Secondary school S1-POSTING PROCESS / EXERCISE On Results day, all students who are promoted to Sec 1 including those successful in DSA Sec Exercise will each receive a personalised A4 size mail pouch containing a unique password (S1 PIN) for parents to submit their child s S1 options via the S1 Internet System (S1-IS) It will also contain the S1 Option form and Eligibility letter if any 5

7 S1-POSTING PROCESS / EXERCISE Submission through Primary School Bring Completed hardcopy S1 Option Form to our school Timings 11am to 3pm on the first day, and 9am to 3pm from second day to last day of S1 Option Phase Proxy Form Parents who are not in Singapore may authorise a proxy to submit the S1 options, on their behalf. A copy of the proxy form can be found in the S1 Information Booklet and S1 Posting Website. DUAL TRACK SCHOOLS Two Option Codes: O Level Programme and Integrated Programme (IP) Student must choose option codes of both programmes of the same school in order of preference if he is interested in both (e.g ( O Level) & 9151 (IP) in Victoria School) Student who indicated ONLY the IP option code of the school (e.g. 9151) will NOT be automatically considered for posting to the O Level Programme unless he / she has also indicated the O Level Programme option code of the school (e.g. 3014) as one of the school choices. 7

8 29/10/2018 ELIGIBILITIES Students, including those successful in DSA Sec Exercise, who are eligible for any of the following will automatically be informed of their eligibility via their personalised Eligibility Letter Course Option Bonus Point for Admission to Special Assistance Plan (SAP) Schools Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL) Third Language Edusave Entrance Scholarships for Independent Schools (EESIS) ELIGIBILITIES Course Option (for borderline cases) E/NA Option Band NA/NT Option Band Students with option bands must exercise course preference in S1 IS during S1 Option Phase. Otherwise, students will be posted to the more academic demanding course. 8

9 ELIGIBILITIES Bonus Points for admission to Special Assistance Plan (SAP) Schools Students, who meet the criteria below, are eligible for the bonus points for admission to SAP schools: Offer a Higher Chinese Language at PSLE and Top 30% cohort Bonus points for admission to SAP schools only Distinction for HCL 3 bonus points Merit 2 bonus points Pass 1 bonus point ELIGIBILITIES Higher Mother Tongue Languages (HMTL) Higher Chinese/ Higher Malay/ Higher Tamil Offer a MTL or HMTL at PSLE and Top 10% of the PSLE cohort or Top 11 30% of the PSLE cohort who meet the language criteria, MTL : A* or HMTL : at least a Merit Interested students can apply to take up HMTL when they report to their secondary school in late December. 9

10 ELIGIBILITIES Third Language Eligible students who are interested to take up a Third Language at Secondary One must exercise their Third Language options. Below are the list of Third Languages that a student could be eligible for: Chinese (Special Programme) [CSP] Malay (Special Programme) [MSP] Bahasa Indonesia (BI) Arabic French German Japanese Spanish ELIGIBILITIES Edusave Entrance Scholarships for Independent Schools (EESIS) Singapore Citizens (SC) who have met the academic requirements based on their PSLE results will be eligible for EESIS. They will be offered EESIS if they are successfully admitted to an Independent School (IS) at S1. 10

11 CONSIDERATIONS WHEN CHOOSING SEC SCH Parents are advised to discuss with your child when making the sec school choices. Every student is allowed to choose up to a max of 6 schools and input them in order of preference. Consideration factors can include Child s personality, learning style, strengths and interests Compatibility of child s academic performance with schools Distance between school and home Affiliated schools Special Assistance Plan (SAP) Schools Programmes/Schemes Offered by Secondary Schools Special needs POSTING PROCESS Students are posted to secondary schools based on merit. Student with a better rounded aggregate score will be considered for admission first subject to the availability of vacancies in the selected school. If there are no more vacancies, then the student will be considered for his/her next choice school(s). Students who fail to get a place in any of their choice of schools will be posted to a school near their home which still has vacancies. 11

12 RELEASE OF POSTING RESULT 3 modes for parents to check posting result on 19 Dec 2018 SMS S1-IS Primary school GUIDELINES ON SCHOOL TRANSFERS AFTER S1 POSTING EXERCISE In 2015, the guidelines for school transfers after S1 Posting Exercise were more tightly enforced, such that secondary schools can consider transfers of students only if they had met the school s Cut- Of Point (COP). This is to ensure that admission after the S1 Posting Exercise is fair to all students. 12

13 SPECIALISED SCHOOLS FOR NT STUDENTS Crest Secondary School and Spectra Secondary School Eligible students will receive an invitation letter and application form Interested students to apply directly at the schools After applying to the SSNT, student is required to participate in the S1 Posting Exercise to opt for their school choices Successful SSNT applicants will be informed by the respective SSNT and will not be posted in the S1 Posting Exercise Posting results for SSNT will be released to schools by 14 Dec Both schools will have open houses during the period 22 to 24 Nov SPECIALISED INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS Specialised Independent Schools do not participate in S1 Posting Exercise NUS High School (NUSHS) School of the Arts (SOTA) School of Science & Technology (SST) 13

14 PSLE CERTS In 2016, PSLE certificates were distributed to students on Results Day. This practice should continue this year. As such, students do not need to return to school to collect their certificates at a later date. REPORTING AT SEC SCHOOL ON 20 DEC Students are to report to their posted sec school in the morning of 20 Dec in their primary school uniform. Parents are encouraged to accompany their child on that day. Besides learning more about the school, parents can buy textbooks and uniform on that day too. 14
