5 Learning the Language TERM Project Aim Objectives Project Activities Outcomes Measurement DESCRIPTION Also known as goal, vision, aspiration. The big dream. A sentence describing the ultimate vision of change the Project hopes to accomplish. Aspirational. Includes geographic location; target population; and health change. Also known as strategies. Details what the major components / sub-projects, the Project will undertake. Where possible, objectives are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound (SMART). Objectives state who will experience what change or benefit and how much change is to be experienced in what time. The actual events or actions that take place as a part of the Project. High level action steps that need to be taken to achieve objectives. The results of project operations or activities. Descriptions of what the Project wants to achieve in the short-term, mediumterm and long-term. Changes that show movement towards achieving goals and objectives. Outcomes are desired accomplishments or changes. Also known as benchmarks or indicators. Measures of progress. Measures may address the type or level of program activities (process), the direct products and services delivered by the project (outputs), or the results of those products and services (outcomes).
6 Learning the Language TERM Short term outcomes (1-2 years) DESCRIPTION Describes what achievements are expected in the short term. Answers the questions: Why are the activities being undertaken? How are the intermediate outcomes achieved? Intermediate outcomes (2-3 years) Describes the purpose of achieving the short term outcomes. Answers the questions: Why is it important to achieve the short term outcomes? How do you get from the short term to the long term outcomes? Long term outcomes / impact (4+ years) Describes the overall, long term, impact the Project would contribute to. Answers the question: Why is it important to achieve the intermediate outcomes?
