1 TEACHER St Joseph s Nudgee College is a Catholic Day and Boarding school in the Edmund Rice Tradition for boys in Years The College caters for students from the local Brisbane area, regional and remote Queensland, interstate and overseas. Teacher A teacher is responsible for creating mindful, positive, supportive and disciplined learning environments. A teacher is responsible for developing, interpreting and delivering the classroom curriculum in a challenging and responsive manner. The teacher is to provide inclusive and contemporary learning experiences and is expected to maintain an engaging learning and teaching environment in line with acknowledged pedagogical best practice. Team Information This position is a member of the Learning & Teaching team, and reports to the Head of Subject. The primary roles of the Learning and Teaching team are to encourage best practice in the area of learning and teaching and develop and support structures that enhance learning within the whole College community. Central to this is the welfare of students in terms of developing appropriate habits in relation to their studies as they develop into lifelong learners. We are also committed to supporting staff members as they carry out their teaching and subject management roles so as to support the College mission and to ensure operation within the parameters of Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice tradition. 2 Primary Duties General teaching duties/responsibilities General teaching duties and responsibilities. Strive to discover and model best practice in the learning and teaching environment. Contribute to the development of a mindful culture at the school. Enhance core learnings for students as stated in the College curriculum plan. Diligent completion of organisational/administrative duties of a teacher (e.g., attendance, entry/exit procedures, expectations, punctuality, moderation, verification, cross marking, record keeping). Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic Education in the Edmund Rice tradition. Act as a witness to the Gospel values by modelling the teachings of the Catholic Church. Commit to the religious dimension and pastoral care climate of the school. Adhere to College pastoral care and discipline programs. Collaborate with House Deans to support students through Pastoral Care group activities. Knowledge of student learning (National Standard 1) Plan and deliver effective learning programs for every student in line with curriculum requirements. Monitor effectiveness of learning/teaching program and respond to learning strengths and needs. Implement culturally and linguistically responsive teaching strategies. Use strategies based on knowledge of student development to improve learning experiences. Knowledge content and pedagogy (National Standard 2) Display knowledge, competence and confidence across the relevant school curriculum. Maintain currency of knowledge in curriculum areas and in pedagogical practice. Make use of engaging teaching activities. Create coherent, well-sequenced learning and teaching programs in line with the College curriculum plan, curriculum documents, policy documents and educational trends. Implement effective teaching strategies for literacy and numeracy. Make effective use of technology within classrooms to enhance learning experiences. Provide opportunities for understanding of diversity. Effective planning and delivery (National Standard 3) Commit to excellence in teaching and learning. Implement effective and inclusive classroom programs. Implement effective behaviour management strategies, including modelling of appropriate behaviour. Create realistic and challenging learning opportunities. Plan, develop and implement curriculum within the College s curriculum plan. Creation of supportive and safe learning environments (National Standard 4) Build positive rapport with students. Actively establish an inclusive, supportive and non-discriminatory classroom environment. Establish and implement classroom routine. Maintain clear expectations. Address discipline issues promptly, fairly and respectfully within Student Formation guidelines. Ensure active attendance at rostered duties. Maintain student safety in these areas. Comply with Workplace Health and Safety responsibilities (hazard minimisation, use of protective equipment, seeking advice when required, familiarity with reporting and evacuation procedures).
3 Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning (National Standard 5) Assess students for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes. Maintain student records and work samples. Provide student data for College recording and reporting purposes. Complete student academic reports according to College guidelines and within assigned timeframes. Participate in development of assessment items and ensure outcomes enhance learning. Ensure reporting information is correct, meaningful and relevant to performance and progress. Professional learning (National Standard 6) Commit to ongoing professional development, including through attendance at in-services. Attend College meetings. This is prioritised over other school activities. Display awareness of curriculum requirements by professional bodies. Participate in collaborative development and evaluation of curriculum. Assist and support a culture of excellence in teaching and learning. Professional relationships (National Standard 7) Attend and participate in College co-curricular life (including sporting and cultural calendar). Establish and maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships in line with the QCT Code of Ethics. Foster and contribute to community-based activities. Create partnerships and work collaboratively with the College and local community. Participate in sharing of innovative practice. Attend and contribute to team meetings and engage in cross-curricular conversations. Make proactive contact with parents/guardians with regard to student progress through appropriate reporting procedures. Utilise professional and community networks to broaden knowledge and improve practice. Maintain professional conduct when representing the College off-site. 4 Mandatory Requirements Tertiary qualifications suitable for teaching in the specified subject area. Current full registration, or provisional with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. If there is the potential for teaching religious education: Accreditation to Teach Religion in a Catholic School Practicing Catholic is preferable Academic staff are required to regularly check their College provided . Attendance at College-directed professional development opportunities. Selection Criteria Demonstrated excellence in teaching, reflecting an integration of contemporary pedagogical and curriculum theory, particularly as it applies to the education of boys. Substantial knowledge of and experience in curriculum initiatives and development, particularly in relation to the education of boys and post compulsory school education. Demonstrate commitment to the goals and aims of Catholic education in the tradition of Edmund Rice; A demonstrated commitment and understanding of the ethos of Catholic Education and the vision of Edmund Rice Education, particularly as to how it is applied to curriculum and learning on a daily basis in the school community. An ability to work in a collaborative team environment in both academic and pastoral roles. Commitment to ongoing professional development and the College s co-curricular program. A formal response to these selection criteria is not required with your application. Applicants may choose to assist the selection panel by identifying areas of particular competence in their application letter and should expect to answer questions related to these selection criteria at interview. Position Details This position is an Full Time Continuing position. This position is under the Catholic Employing Authorities Single Enterprise Collective Agreement. Additional Factors Flexibility with working hours is an expectation of this position. Attendance at professional development opportunities on an annual basis. The Principal and/or Deputy Principal may direct completion of other reasonable, relevant duties. The College reserves the right to modify this position to meet its operational needs.
