2 SUMMER EXAMINATIONS 2018 Students entered for Summer 2018 examinations should now be in receipt of their: Individual timetable JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) information for candidates - received via Please ensure these documents are checked and read thoroughly 1. Before the Examination It is your responsibility to check your examination timetable carefully and to present yourself for the right examination and the proper time. a) Study your timetable carefully and make sure you understand when and where your examinations will take place. Your teachers will be asked to draw your attention to the examination for which they are preparing you. Make sure you revise for the right examination paper. If you miss an examination you cannot take it on another day. You will be asked to repay the entry fee for any examination you miss without good cause. If you are ill and cannot take an examination you must telephone the school by 8.30am, leaving a message for your Year Team or the Examinations Officer. You will be asked to complete a self-certificate form, or bring in a doctor's note. b) Desks in the examination rooms will be numbered. Seating plans showing the number of the desk at which you must sit will be displayed. Do not turn up to any examination without knowing where you are seated. 2. At the examination Most examinations will take place in the Sports Hall unless indicated otherwise on the timetable. a) Examinations will begin at 9.30am for the morning session and 1.00pm for the afternoon session, unless stated otherwise. You must arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of your examination. b) Arriving on time is your responsibility. You will not be allowed to leave before the end of an examination. c) You may be refused entry to the examination room if you are late. If you arrive more than 30 minutes after the start of the examination, a report will be sent to the examination board explaining why you were late and if the security of the examination has been breached. d) Make sure that you come to the examination properly equipped. Bring black pens, pencils, ruler, eraser (bring spare pens and pencils). Only clear pencil cases are permitted. Some examinations require additional materials which you must provide (e.g. coloured pencils, calculators etc). The school will not be able to provide such specialist materials so ensure that you attend fully equipped. Do not use correcting pens, fluid or tape, erasable pens, highlighters or gel pens for your answers.

3 e) Bags, books, coats etc must be left at the front of the room where you are seated. Do not take any unauthorised materials with you to your examination desk (e.g. revision notes). f) Calculators are allowed in some examinations. The school will not provide spare calculators. Where calculators are allowed, the case and instructions must not be taken into the examination room. g) It cannot be stressed enough how important it is not to take electronic devices (e.g. mobile phones, ipods, MP3/4 players) into an examination room. Possession of unauthorised material is breaking the rules, even if you don't intend to use it, and you will be subject to a penalty and possible disqualification. h) You are allowed to bring a clear sports bottle of water (no screw tops are permitted) into the examination room. Any labels must be removed. If you bring the wrong type of bottle it will be taken from you. You can purchase bottles of water from the Café Olé, but please ask for a sports bottle. i) I am sure you will understand the kind of behaviour that is expected in any examination room. Remember, you must not talk to, attempt to communicate with or disturb other candidates once you have entered the examination room. j) You must follow the instructions of the Invigilator. If you are in any doubt, put your hand up and speak to the Invigilator. k) You must not ask for, and will not be given, any explanation of the questions. l) If on the day of the examination you feel that your work may be affected by ill health or any other reason, tell the Invigilator/Examinations Officer on the day of the examination. 3. Results Put up your hand during the examination if: You have a problem and are in doubt of what you should do; You do not feel well; You need more paper. After the examination, it is essential that you leave the examination room quietly. Students may still be sitting examinations and other students in school may be at lessons. GCE results will be available on Thursday 16 August 2018 in the LRC: Year 13 between 7.00am and 9.00am Year 12 between 9.30am and 11.00am GCSE results will be available on Thursday 23 August 2018 Year 11 between 9:00am and 12noon

4 Result slips will be distributed from the Rosling. If you are unable to collect your results, these can be posted out providing you have given the Examinations Officer an A4 stamped addressed envelope (please ensure that you have used the correct postage). Alternatively, you may send someone else to collect them providing you have given the Examinations Officer a letter authorising that person to collect them on your behalf. NO RESULTS WILL BE GIVEN OUT OVER THE TELEPHONE 4. Post results for Summer 2018 Examinations If you would like to make an enquiry about your result (a re-mark), please be aware of three possible outcomes: a) Your original mark will be confirmed as correct and there will be no change to your grade b) Your original mark may be raised and this may or may not result in a change of grade c) Your original mark may be lowered and this may or may not result in a change of grade In order to proceed with a request for a re-mark, you must contact the Examinations Officer immediately following the release of results. There will be a fee of approximately 60, depending on examination board, payable at the time of request. If there is a change to the original grade this amount will be refunded. You also need to see the Examinations Officer if you require the access to scripts service. Copies/original scripts cost around 13 each, depending on examination board.
