1 CHAMPS Behavioral Expectations for Ms. Lane s Classroom (msdlane.weebly.com)

2 There are 10 major classroom activities in this classroom: Entering the Classroom, Exiting the Classroom, Independent Work, Partner & Group Work, Instructions & Lecture, Testing, Video Notes, Binders, SS Notebooks, and Topic Notes We need to be clear what the behavioral expectations are for those activities CHAMPS is a way for us to easily learn and remind ourselves of what those expectations are

3 How do you ask to use the bathroom? (before/during class) How does Ms. Lane get your attention? What do you do when this happens? How do you get your work after an absence? What are you expected to do when we do our Goal Setting? What is the refocus area? And what are you expected to do there?

4 0- Silent (No talking at all) 1- Whisper (This is only done with your breath, I should never hear a whisper) 2- Partner Conversation (Only your partner(s) should hear your voice) 3- Presentational (This voice level should be heard by everyone in the room) 4- Outside- This voice level is not limited and should only be used outside of the building)

5 Conversation: Can you engage in conversation? About what? With whom? Voice level? Help: How do you get help? Or the teacher s attention? Activity: What is the expected end product of the activity? Participation: What behaviors show that you are participating? Or are not Participating? Success: You can and will be successful if you follow the CHAMPS guidelines!

Voice Level- 2- Partner Conversation (Only your partner(s) should hear your voice) Ask a partner for guidance Ask teacher questions: AFTER ATTENDANCE IS COMPLETE Raise your hand and wait your turn or walk up to me at my desk Check/Read the Board for information/start any noted things to do or organize Get necessary materials: SS Notebooks, Binders, Textbooks, assignments, paper, pencil (Sharpen it now), tissue, hand sanitizer, etc. Check the absent work folder and get the assignments you missed, or go to msdlane.weebly.com. If you do not understand the notes or assignment YOU need to ask your Buddy or make an appointment with me after school. For what? You are expected to use the restroom a.s.a.p. before class Let me know or someone else if I m not available You are expected walk in the classroom, leave the possession of others alone, and act respectfully. Yes. But you must be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. Get necessary materials: SS Notebooks, Binders, Textbooks, assignments, paper, pencil (Sharpen it now), tissue, hand sanitizer, etc. Check the absent work folder and get the assignments you missed, or go to msdlane.weebly.com. If you do not understand the notes or assignment YOU need to ask your Buddy or make an appointment with me after school. You must be in your assigned seat, with all necessary materials, and with personal needs attended to by the time the bell rings.

7 Conversation: Can you engage in conversation? About what? With whom? Voice level? No. Voice Level-0- Silent Raise your hand Have all materials and assignments where the teacher directed them to be before the exit bell (Basket, Collect Alphabetically, Binder, Take Home) Clean up any paper near your seat and throw it in the trash can quickly and quietly Only when given permission after the teacher (not the bell) releases the class. Leave in the orderly fashion we have practiced. You should be at a 0-voice level, sitting in your assigned seat, looking at the teacher, with materials and assignments where the teacher directed them to be (Basket, Binder, Take Home) Volunteers to put crates away if necessary

Voice Level- 1- Whisper (This is only done with your breath, I should never hear a whisper) Ask a partner sitting near you (beside, behind, or in front) Raise your hand Come up to teacher s desk (Limit 2 in line at a time) Complete the assigned activity Yes: But only to re-sharpen your pencil, get tissue or hand sanitizer, hand in or pick up materials, or to speak to the teacher at her desk You will have a writing utensil in hand, working on the assignment, and have either your SS Notebook, Binder, or book open

No. Voice Level-0- Silent Raise your hand Follow along with the notes, guide, or presentation on the board and/or in your assignment, or SS Notebook, or Binder. Yes: But only to get tissue or hand sanitizer No pencil sharpening while the teacher is talking-so have a back up You should be looking at the teacher, board, or notes, you may have a writing utensil in hand, and have either your SS Notebook, Binder, assignment, or book open

11 No. Voice Level-0- Silent Raise your hand Complete the test When finished check it over for errors then turn it in to the basket, unless I am collecting the work alphabetically Read, work on an assignment, or sit quietly until the class has finished the test Yes. But only to turn in your test, to re-sharpen your pencil or get tissue or hand sanitizer Looking at your own work, completing the test to the best of your ability, and using the extra time after the time in a non-disruptive and/or productive way

12 No. Voice Level-0- Silent Shouting out questions makes everyone forget what they were thinking Raise your hand Watch Listen Think Write If you miss something draw a? or * on your notes and ask when the video is finished After the video - Raise your hand to ask any questions on missed information When finished check it over for errors then turn it in to the basket, unless I am collecting the work alphabetically Yes. But only to turn in your notes, to re-sharpen your pencil or get tissue or hand sanitizer Watching the video, completing the notes to the best of your ability, sharing your observations when called upon during class discussion, and turning in your notes when instructed

But only to turn in your notes, to re-sharpen your pencil or get tissue or hand sanitizer You should be working on the written assignment, you may have a writing utensil in hand, have your assignment and your textbook is open to the correct section, you are quietly discussing how to write the notes with your partner

Voice Level- 2- Partner Conversation (Only your partner(s) should hear your voice) Ask a partner sitting in your group Everyone in the group needs the information - ALL RAISE HANDS Come up to teacher s desk (Limit 2 in line at a time) Assignment sheet is filled in accurately Assignment sheet is filled in completely Assignments are in the same order as written on the assignment sheet The included assignments are checked off Assignments are finished completely When taken out of Binder assignment packets are stapled in the upper left corner and in the correct order. Yes: But only to re-sharpen your pencil, get tissue or hand sanitizer, hand in or pick up materials, or to speak to the teacher at her desk The only people moving about are those chosen to pass out papers quickly & efficiently You should be working on the assignment sheet and organization, you may have a writing utensil in hand, and have either your assignments out being organized or they are in the Binder. Assignment packets will be collected in alphabetical order. LISTEN FOR YOUR NAME After your assignment packet is returned to you: Show your assignments to your caring adult Get your assignment sheet signed by your caring adult Return ONLY the signed assignment sheet for credit

When you PAIR you may only engage in conversation to Voice Level- 1 to2- Partner Conversation (Only your partner(s) should hear your voice) When we SHARE with the class Voice Level 3 so that the entire class can hear your thoughts Ask a partner sitting in your group Everyone in the group needs the information - ALL RAISE HANDS Come up to teacher s desk (Limit 2 in line at a time) THINK - About the assigned topic and write your thoughts PAIR Your thoughts on the topic with a partner(s) located nearby SHARE Your thoughts or your partners thoughts with the class in discussion Your entries will written one-after-another with a skipped line between each one, Use the back of the page, Place the date in the margin Yes: But only to re-sharpen your pencil, get tissue or hand sanitizer, hand in or pick up materials, or to speak to the teacher at her desk The only people moving about are those who don t have anyone nearby You should be working on the assignment in your SS Notebook, The date should be in the margin You will write entries in succession - skip a line between each entry, and use the back of the page You will have a writing utensil in hand, and your SS Notebook open to your writing You will be ready to share the requested information (with either a partner or the group)
