1 (THE PROMISED ONE) Fall 2017 Mr. Noe Room: D ext. 124 General Information Title: The Mission of Jesus Christ (The Paschal Mystery) Prereq s: The Revelation of Jesus in Scripture, Who is Jesus Christ? (Frosh Theology) Text: The Promised One: Servant and Savior Veritas Publications 2014 Course Description This course will help students understand all that God has done for us through his Son, Jesus Christ. Through this class students will learn that for all eternity God has planned for us to share eternal happiness with him which is accomplished through the redemption Christ won for us through His passion, death and resurrection. Students will learn that they share in this redemption only in and through Jesus Christ. They will be introduced to what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and what life as a disciple entails. Course Objectives At the end of this course students should be able to: 1. Understand that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Scriptures. 2. Understand Creation as an invitation to God s unconditional LOVE. 3. Be able to recognize God s unfolding vision of harmony, justice and peace in the face of the evil and negative forces in the world. 4. Be able to identify how you can grow to become your true self. General Policies & Procedures 1. All guidelines in The Shield regarding food and dress code will be observed and enforced please don t make me be a police officer in class. 2. If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to check with me upon your return to figure out what you missed &/or ask for missing work. 3. If you are absent the day of a test, please make arrangements with me to take the test upon your return. Usually make-up exams will be given within two days of your return 3, maybe, if you bring chocolate. 4. DO NOT TAKE ACTIVE CLASSTIME TO DISCUSS GRADES please see your teacher BEFORE or AFTER CLASS. Rules, Expectations, Policies and Procedures Rules 1. Follow directions. 2. Keep hands, feet, & objects to yourself at all times. 3. Use school appropriate language; no teasing, put-downs, swearing, etc. 4. No hats, hoodies or sunglasses are to be worn in the classroom. 5. No food or beverage is allowed in the classroom. Consequences 1. Verbal reminder of rules. 2. Seat change. 3. Time &/or last to leave detention 4. Home contact 5. Administrative referral* * Teacher discretion applicable in every situation Expectations what I will expect from you Students will have their own materials in class, each day, which include: Textbook At least ONE blue or black pen Folder or section in binder to hang onto all tests, quizzes and handouts 2. Students will be on time to class. 3. Restrooms are to be used before or after class, not during. 4. The bell ringing does not dismiss you, I do. 5. You are a sophomore, therefore, I m a freshman I didn t know is no longer an acceptable excuse for anything.

2 Overall Attitude This class is wholly dependent on student cooperation, respect and maturity, all of which are expected of sophomores at SJHS. Please be aware and respectful of the classroom environment, the opinions and beliefs of your fellow classmates, and the disposition of the teacher in the classroom. Your attitude will greatly influence the class, your depth of understanding, and the level of enjoyment we all will be able to achieve. Homework 1. All assignments will be posted on Power School and the school website. In addition, I will announce and post the assignments in the classroom and record the assignments on my phone message. 2. Major assignments will be assigned well in advance to allow students to organize their time. 3. Any early out is not an excuse to not turning in homework. If you miss part of the day for an early out or a doctor s appointment, retreat, etc., homework is still due that day. Put the homework in my box before you leave school, when you arrive at school, or when you return to school. 4. If you are gone the day before an assignment is due, and the assignment was assigned prior to the time you were gone, it is due on the due date or the day you return. 5. All tests missed are made up the day you return unless otherwise arranged with the teacher. 6. All work is to be in on time. Any work turned in late will be worth ½ credit. EVALUATION: The student s grade will be based on a series of quizzes, exams, homework assignments, projects and class participation. The total accumulation of points will result in a grade based on the following scale: % = A = A = A = B = B = B = C = C = C = D = D = D- Below 59.4= F Your work (neatness, quality, thoughtfulness, and thoroughness) should reflect the grade you wish to earn in this class. It is ultimately up to the student (namely, you) to earn his or her points in the class. Trust me, you will have to work hard to get an A or an F in this course, but know that it is entirely up to you & your effort.
