You will be expected to report any concerns relating to the safeguarding of children and young people in accordance with agreed procedures. If your own conduct in relation to the safeguarding of children and young people gives cause for concern, the fellowships agreed child protection procedures will be followed. 2. Job context To deliver, as part of a professional team, a high quality support service to enhance learning for all students. Special Needs Work The teaching assistant will work under the supervision of the class teacher or SENCO. The teaching assistant will complete working records accurately and make the class teacher / SENCO aware of any issues. The class teacher will plan and prepare the work for the individual and small groups with the teaching assistant. The teaching assistant and class teacher will have discussions about how the children are progressing and this will be done on a regular basis. The class teacher is responsible for setting up and monitoring programmes and deciding on the rate of progression.

2 3. Main duties Supporting Teachers 1. Work effectively as part of the teaching support team or SEN team and with teaching staff in contributing to the quality of teaching and learning and addressing the Special Needs of pupils. 2. Support and complement the work of teachers by: Preparing practical resources for the lessons such as apparatus, differentiated worksheets or visual aids. Responding to individual needs by personalising resources for an individual or a small group. Supporting the teacher in behaviour management and reinforcing agreed rules in working with pupils. Assisting with assessing, recording and reporting (including verbal feedback to teacher and parents) on pupil progress and attainment e.g. input data such as the records of pupils achievements on the School information management system. Planning with a teacher specific strategies and targets for improvement, e.g. assist in the compilation, implementation and review of IEPs. Help to set up and clear away teaching resources. 3. Be familiar with a range of resources suitable for individual or small group needs, and to use them to ensure pupil motivation. 4. Work with and act upon guidance provided by teachers and other professionals such as Speech Therapists and Educational Psychologists. 5. Liaise with the teachers regarding progress made, problems arising, and any difficulties with accessing work and/or resources. 6. Arrive in class, on or before the start of the lesson, and to begin and end any withdrawal sessions on time, assist the class teacher in collecting children from playground at beginning of sessions, help supervise pupils at the end of sessions. 7. Take appropriate action related to any problems or emergencies that occur during the lesson in accordance with the School s policies and procedures. 8. Comply with all school policies particularly those on child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection. 9. Set a good example in terms of personal presentation, attendance and punctuality. 10. To work with any child within any class throughout the school, as requested by the Principal. 11. To undertake the supervision, alongside a teacher, HLTA or cover supervisor, both inside and outside the building and undertaking any reasonable request by the teacher in connection with the education / welfare of the child. 12. To undertake tasks with small groups of children sometimes outside the class and not necessarily within the view of the teacher. 13. To take part in staff development sessions and curriculum meetings, where appropriate, for which additional payment may be claimed in certain circumstances. 14. To take part in training days and twilight sessions as requested. Payment will be extra for required sessions.

3 15. To liaise with the class teacher about pupil s progress and assist with the evaluation and development of IEP s. 16. To undertake other duties as directed by the Principal. Supporting Pupils - Learning 1. Assist in the promotion of development and learning (physical, emotional and behavioural). 2. Work to develop inclusion of all pupils within a lesson. This may be done by encouraging pupils to work collaboratively, by ensuring equitable access to resources or by further developing the use of ICT in lessons. 3. Be familiar with a range of teaching resources and strategies suitable for the needs of individuals or small groups and to use them effectively. 4. Assist pupils with practical work. Supporting Pupils Pastoral 1. Support the member of staff in providing a safe learning environment. 2. Provide support for pupils with emotional, social and behavioural problems, e.g. by giving time to listen to their concerns, to enable pupils to feel valued and respected. 3. Deal with or report, to the nearest member of the teaching staff, incidents that are seen or reported regarding pupils welfare. 4. Report to the teacher any incidents of disruptive or unacceptable behaviour of pupils during the lesson that may be unknown to the teacher. 5. Assist in the personal and social care of the pupils. 6. Assist pupils as appropriate to carry out personal care and hygiene tasks. 7. Assist identified pupils as required on arrival and departure from school. 8. Contribute to the Extended Schools programme as indicated within the School Improvement Plan, e.g. by assisting on school outings and various activities. 4. Information Technology Daily use of computers will include using the Academy and Fellowship sites, Database, Word, and Excel, web-based, Power Point, visible learning platform, Interactive White Board, other media, and Web browsers. To be aware of Organisations policies on Data handling and the Data Protection Act and IT Use Policy.

5 10. Health and Safety To be responsible for your own health and safety and that of anyone else who may be affected by your acts or omissions. Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety & Welfare. 11. Other duties The post holder may be required to perform any other reasonable tasks, after consultation.
