2 The Task You will be researching the life of Johnny Appleseed. Using internet-based resources, you will find important facts and events that occurred throughout his life. Make sure to find information about how he made a difference in the history of America. As a final project, you will be asked to write a biography about Johnny Appleseed and how he gave to society. Lastly, you will be making a piece of artwork using apple slices.

3 The Process 1. Each student will be paired up with another student from your class. 2. Print out a KWL chart found at Creately.com. 3. With your partner, fill out what you already Know about Johnny Appleseed and what you Want to know about him as you complete this project. 4. Find Internet Explorer on the desktop and double-click to open. 5. Browse through the websites listed here in order find information about Johnny Appleseed. While you re looking through these sites, be sure to write down information you find that you think will help you write a biography of his life. Include important information such as when he was born, where he grew up and lived, why he is important and what he did to contribute to life in America. After two class periods of researching, you will come back together as a class. As a group, you will go around the room sharing one specific fact you have learned about Johnny Appleseed with the class. There cannot be any repeating facts. Make sure to pay attention, as this information will be important in writing your biographies. 7. Individually, you will be required to begin writing a one-page biography on the life of Johnny Appleseed. Be sure to include an introduction, body, and conclusion. At the end, include a hand-drawn picture that relates to the topic of this project.

As a final activity, each student will have the opportunity to create a work of art using apple slices from the trees planted by Johnny hundreds of years ago.
