7 AIM Support Member States to reform education systems with a lifelong learning approach to enhance resilience of EU citizens in an era of rapid technological and demographic change provide quality STEAM education increase enrolment and academic success of students address gender segregation at higher-education level produce a workforce with the right STEM skills that can better cope with complex challenges in the digital era through creative and interdisciplinary approaches 7

8 Objectives Align local, regional and national policies, strategies and objectives to foster STEAM education Identify and tackle the main challenges in STEAM education Build on ongoing national and European initiatives to develop more strategic approaches supported by education-research-business-government cooperation for increased outreach and impact of STEAM education Promote the modernisation and uptake of STEAM education through more multi-disciplinary curricula and programmes Address gender gaps and stereotypes at institutions of higher education Facilitate mutual learning, exchange of experiences and good practice on STEAM education approaches 8

9 TEACHERS AND TEACHING Provide the necessary training for teachers to deliver STEAM education traditional barriers between subjects are removed focus on innovation and solutions to real world problems curricula that are context-based, inquiry-based, ICT-enriched, promote collaborative learning, and the use of extra-curricular activities teaching that is interesting, interactive and relevant in order to engage and motivate students 9
