2 Today s Goal I will be able to understand the importance of a job interview and be able to role play a mock interview.

3 First Word, Last Word What does job interview mean to you? What should you bring to a job interview? How does/would it make you feel to participate in a job interview? How should you dress to a job interview? ACTIVITY: In groups, discuss these questions and create an acrostic poem for the word interview. You can use single adjectives or full sentences to express your definition.

13 Fun Fact When 100 employers were surveyed about the question most often asked in interviews, they responded as follows: "Tell me about yourself." - 50 "What are your strengths?" - 30 "Why should we hire you?" - 20

14 Each One, Teach One Everyone will receive ONE card regarding job interviews You may have an interview question or answer Spend a few minutes reading and familiarizing your card You will have ten minutes to circulate around the room and find your cards match.

15 Debrief What are the top interview questions? What do you notice about the answers to these questions? Have you ever been asked these questions in a job interview? If so how did you respond?

18 4. Know yourself. What talents, training, and personality qualities will make you the ideal candidate for the position? Remember Be optimistic. 2. Prepare for questions that the interviewer may ask. 3. Do your research. Find out before the interview the types of tasks you will be responsible for and the skills you are going to need to accomplish those tasks.

19 5. Bring an updated copy of your resume and reference sheet and any other materials that you may need. 6. Dress for success. 7. Timing is everything. Be there at least minutes early and know how to get there. Give yourself enough time for the interview and do not book anything after in case the interview runs longer than expected. 8. The interview process doesn't always end when you walk out the door. There may be a few things you have to do to follow up.

20 Mock Interviews (Role Play) In pairs, you will be participating in mock interviews. One student will be the Employer One student will be the Interview Candidate

21 Employer Task: Imagine that you are an employer preparing to interview for a job opening. Your task is to identify the type of job, and use the interview practice questions to ask your fellow classmate in an interview. Interview Candidate: Imagine that you are going for an interview today. Your task is to professionally answer the questions the employer has for you as best as you can. Remember to show them that you are the BEST person for the job!!! Remember to prepare 2 questions for the Employer at the end of the interview! Switch Roles
