Unfortunately, trained healthcare professionals are becoming a rare species everywhere in the world. It is only through recruiting and retaining the best human talent that a healthcare organization can grow in a sustainable mode. One way to address this is to become part of the pipeline for this rather than wait for others to deliver. With nearly 1200 doctors and 3000 nurses working in our institutions, it is important that we contribute to the pool, rather than just consume, for a sustainable existence. This prompted us to venture into Medical Education to nurture healthcare professionals, who have access to high quality facilities and faculty. Our search for an ideal location to establish the Medical Campus to fulfill this dream took us to Wayanad. Nestled in the cradle of Mother Nature, in the lush green forests of Western Ghats in God s Own Country with salubrious weather, we found the most auspicious land to locate the Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences at Meppadi. The felt-need for quality healthcare by 7 lakhs population of Wayanad and other 13 lakhs in surrounding districts of Gudalur and Gundalpet, was also a very important reason for locating WIMS at Meppadi while bringing affordable advanced healthcare to the population in these districts, the medical students will have the opportunity to live close to nature and witness the healing and care provided to the poor and needy population including the tribal. Apart from the Medical College, the Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences shall soon have other Teaching Institutes like Nursing, Dental, Pharmacy, Bio-Medical, Physiotherapy and Paramedical colleges in the campus. With the addition of Post Graduate Courses in various subjects, we hope to open the doors of knowledge to Medical Research in Clinical and Basic Sciences. At WIMS, Learning and Healing shall merge with nature in a comprehensive medical campus, where quality education in a serene ambience shall be imparted to future generation. Vision The DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences (DM WIMS) aims to be among the top 10 Teaching Medical Institutions in India by 2025, by bringing learning and healing closer to nature, with state-ofthe-art infrastructure and excellent faculty, in a serene ecofriendly, green campus.

7 Creating a Blueprint for Medical Education and Research in the Country Setting a Benchmark for the future of Medical Education in India WIMS endorses its commitment to be at the forefront of Medical Education and Research, which will be progressive and innovative. The well-equipped Biomedical and Physiology Laboratories, Anatomy dissection halls, Museums, e-learning library, Simulation labs etc shall make learning a pleasure. The college will have an attached 700-bed Teaching Hospital, which provides ready access to practical training for the students while developing rapport and social skills with local population. In line with the desire to provide quality healthcare closer to greater numbers of people, the teaching hospital of WIMS will improve healthcare infrastructure at Wayanad where the existing doctor-population ratio is 1:1600. The hospital will cater to healthcare needs of people from Wayanad and neighborhood districts in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. 50 acres of self-contained campus with medical college, teaching hospital, residential facilities and ancillary buildings in accordance with Medical Council of India (MCI) super speciality medical facilities like Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Emergency and Trauma care, which are badly required in the region. There shall be paid, private rooms and suites to accommodate the patients who can afford.

9 Healing Humanity and caring Mother Nature A Green Campus Model WIMS is committed to contribute to the environment and natural resources conservation and improve the living standards of local communities including large tribal population. Wayanad is one among the rare districts in India with 15% indigenous tribal population totaling to 100,000 in 13 sub-sects. WIMS will develop a sustainable campus that reflects environmental, cultural and social responsibilities and values across teaching and learning. WIMS green campus will be a Botanical Garden that enrich the environment: Renewable energy projects, Carbon neutrality activities like reduction of energy demand through minimal use of motor vehicles etc. Each student joining WIMS shall have a opportunity to plant and nurture a tree throughout his campus life, to be its mentor for life and get attached to the Mother Earth.

Subsidized and free treatment shall be provided at the WIMS Hospital to the needy. The Foundation also plans to set a Not for Profit Cancer Centre with Radiation Oncology facility and a Dialysis Centre in the campus.
