2 About the program Program Overview The ELI program prepares engineering students for potential leadership roles in organizations that will flourish in a dynamic business environment. Student participants enter the four-semester program in their junior year, and receive a scholarship to enable them to take leadership and business courses, learn from an industry mentor, meet with industry leaders, and practice hands-on leadership within a creative inquiry team. The program draws on the unique Staley School of Leadership Studies program, the reputation of the College of Business Administration, the success of student-led College of Engineering creative inquiry teams in national competitions and strong connections with our corporate partners. Approximately 20 junior-level students will enter the program each spring for a total of 40 student participants per year. The ELI program is an investment opportunity to help shape the next generation of engineering leadership. s are provided with exclusive opportunities such as: Annual Career Spotlight Day (see attached schedule) Corporate partner mentoring which pairs a company employee with one or more ELI scholars Annual ELI Day for corporate partner mentors (see attached schedule) ELI student tour at corporate partner s location (virtual if needed) Corporate partner logo branding in Engineering Hall (see Figure 1) and the COE ELI web page (engg.k-state.edu/eli/) Corporate partner logo branding for Career Spotlight Day (see Figure 2) 2

To ensure outstanding attendance at the Career Spotlight presentation, the COE will award three cash scholarships to students at no expense for s. 3

5 ELI Day itinerary March 31, 2017 Objective Coordinated by the Staley School of Leadership Studies, ELI day will focus on ways in which we can be fully engaged in academics, work and personal/community life. We will focus on utilizing an asset-based perspective to make progress on important issues. Time Activity Location Attendees 8:30-9 a.m. Working breakfast - Welcome and Overview Speakers: Provost April Mason, Dean Darren Dawson, Associate Dean Ronaldo Maghirang 9-10 a.m. Workshop 1: Building Strengths-based Relationships Facilitator: Dr. Mike Finnegan, Staley School of Leadership Studies a.m. Workshop 2: Coaching with Your Strengths Facilitators: Dr. Mary Kay Siefers and Marcia Hornung, Staley School of Leadership Studies This workshop will focus on understanding the role and purpose coaches serve in helping individuals work through challenges and make progress on goals and aspirations. We will also discuss the differences between coaching, mentoring, advising, counseling, facilitating, consulting, and teaching. 11 a.m. - noon Workshop 3: Leaders Must be Present to Win - Helping Leaders be Present Speaker: Doug Sterbenz Just like the rules for your local fundraiser, where participants must be present to win, leaders must be present with those they lead so they can win. What does it mean to be present and why don t we do it more often? Are your leaders spending too much time on their individual inbasket and passing up much higher value opportunities to lead?
