Hassink,, FAAP, is the 2014 president elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Dr. Hassink is the director of the Nemours Pediatric Obesity Initiative at A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE which is part of the Division of General Pediatrics. Dr. Hassink is the Chairperson of the Ethics Committee and a member of the Institutional Review Board for dupont Hospital for Children. She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics for Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Hassink is an active member of the National Association of Children s Hospitals and Related Institutions and serves on a focus group on Obesity. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has been a member of the AAP Task Force on Obesity, Delaware Chapter President, and District Chair for Region III. She is a Pediatric Consultant for the Delaware Office of Disability and a member of the Committee on Environmental and Public Health for the Medical Society of Delaware She has written several articles and books, including A Parent s Guide to Childhood Obesity, Pediatric Obesity: Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment Strategies for Primary Care, and Clinical Guide to Pediatric Weight Management. Additionally, Dr. Hassink has collaborated in research efforts to identify pathophysiologic mechanisms of obesity, centering on the role of leptin. She is a frequent lecturer on the topic of childhood obesity, obesity prevention and weight management. Dr. Hassink received her medical degree from Vanderbilt Medical School and a Masters in Pastoral Care and Consulting from Neumann College.

She is editor-in-chief of Hospital Pediatrics, an AAP medical journal. She began her career as a hospitalist with a primary research interest in the clinical management of acute viral bronchiolitis, the most common reason for hospitalization in young children, which led to her current focus on waste and overuse in medicine. She is a founding member of the Value in Inpatient Pediatrics Network and the leader of that organization s national bronchiolitis quality improvement collaborative. Dr. Ralston is also co-chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics bronchiolitis guideline committee. Dr. Dudas is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent at the Johns Hopkins University School of. He is a graduate of Rutgers College and the Johns Hopkins University School of and completed a residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is currently the assistant director of medical student education for the Department of Pediatrics and serves as the Helen Taussig College Faculty Co-Leader in the Colleges Advisory Program in the School of. He is actively engaged in curriculum development and evaluation for the School of. Dr Dudas also serves as Medical Director of the Pediatric Hospitalist Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where he oversees pediatric care delivered in the emergency department, inpatient department and nursery. His scholarly interests are in health service delivery and medical education with a focus on simulation, clinical skills development and assessment. Dr Dudas has won institutional teaching awards from both medical students and residents and most recently received the 2013 Outstanding Achievement in Education Award from the Institute for Excellence in Education and the Johns Hopkins University School of.

He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of in 1977, completed his Pediatric Residency at the Johns Hopkins Children s Center in 1980, served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in 1981, completed his residency in Dermatology at Johns Hopkins in 1984, and served as Chief Resident in Dermatology during his last year of training. He was subsequently recruited to Children s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he served as Director of Pediatric Dermatology until 1991 when he returned to Johns Hopkins. Dr. Cohen was boarded in Pediatrics in 1981, Dermatology in 1984, and Pediatric Dermatology in He is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology where he served as President in Dr. Cohen is the author or coauthor of numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Lancet, Archives of Dermatology, and the New England Journal of, among others. He has a special interest in infantile hemangiomas, vascular malformations, infections and infestations, other birthmarks, cutaneous laser surgery, medical education and imaging in dermatology. Dr. Thompson completed his medical school from Wake Forest University, Bowman Gray School of and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He went to the Children s Hospital Harvard Medical School for his fellowship in cardiology. His special interests include Fetal Echo, Stress Echo, Echocardiography and evaluation of ventricular function. He is also very interested in exploring new methods of teaching cardiac auscultation. Branden Engorn, is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University School of. He continued on to complete his Pediatric Residency followed by a Pediatric Chief Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Engorn is currently pursuing advanced training in Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Engorn's clinical interest includes the care of children in both the pediatric operating room and pediatric intensive care unit. His other academic interests include medical education, simulation, and he has a research focus in both resuscitation and quality improvement/patient safety.

He received his medical degree from the Medical University of Ohio. He did his pediatric residency training at Brown University and his pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at Northwestern University. His academic interests revolve around medical education, simulation-based training, and pediatric resuscitation. Salwa Khan, MHS FAAP is the Associate Director for the Pediatric Hospital Program at Johns Hopkins University School of /Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Khan is a medical graduate of the University Of Vermont School Of, completed her residency training at University of Maryland Hospital for Children, and her public health training at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her prior work experience includes being on staff of the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (part of the School of Public Health); as Program Manager for the Vermont Child Health Improvement Program (VCHIP); serving as a Sr. Epidemiologist for the State of Vermont Dept. of Health; and as an Attending Hospitalist at the Children s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Dr. Khan is actively involved in teaching medical students and pediatric residents at the JHU SOM; she is the lead on communications within the Section on International Child Health of the American Academy of Pediatrics; course director for the Johns Hopkins annual symposium on Innovations in Pediatric Hospital ; and serves as a Child Health Consultant for the World Bank. She is involved in a variety of quality and safety projects and groups within JHBMC. She is an active in her community as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for juveniles in the Maryland court system.

She practices at St. Agnes Hospital, where she is an attending physician for the pediatrics residents and medical students from Johns Hopkins during their community hospital in-patient rotation. Additionally she works part time in the St. Agnes Pediatric Emergency Department which is located in Southwest Baltimore. Her area of interest is provider-patient communication. She is currently engaged in developing and studying a curriculum for improving communication skills in pediatric housestaff. Eric Balighian is a pediatric hospitalist and pediatric emergency physician at St. Agnes Hospital in Maryland. He also enjoys teaching medical students and residents at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His interests include teaching clinical reasoning, the physical examination, practical evidence based medicine, and simulated resuscitations. He grew up in Maryland and enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. Sybil B. Pentsil, M.D. Shahid Aziz, M.D. FAAP, FAAHPM Children s Hospital at Sinai Hospital Associate Program Director Academic Pediatric Hospitalist 2401 W. Belvedere Ave. Baltimore, Chair Ethics Committee, Harbor and Laurel Regional Hospitals Medical Director Hospice of Chesapeake Dr. Pentsil is an academic hospitalist and associate program director for pediatrics at The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai. She obtained her and MPH degrees at Johns Hopkins University, and went on to residency training in pediatrics at Sinai Hospital. Sybil has worked extensively in community hospitals in the Baltimore area since 2000, and returned to Sinai in 2011 out of a desire to teach residents. She was the recipient of the 2014 Faculty Superstar Award and the 2014 Faculty Teacher of the Year Award. She has gained experience in preparing staff to deal with pediatric medical emergencies and is delighted to share these experiences in today's workshop. Dr. Aziz has been a board certified pediatrician and teacher for over 40 years. He is the past chair of Pediatrics and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Medstar Harbor Hospital. He is now a board certified hospice and palliative care physician for children and adults. He is also the chair of Ethics committees at two local hospitals (Harbor and Laurel) and one

6 hospice (Chesapeake). He serves as Clinical Teaching faculty at Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland and Medstar Harbor Hospital. His major interest is in end of life issues, palliative care and clinical ethics. Andrea Berry Assistant Professor, Pediatric Infectious Diseases University of Maryland School of Dr. Berry completed her pediatric residency at the Children s Hospital of Philadelphia and her fellowship at the University of Maryland. Dr. Berry directs the Pediatric Clinical Studies Group at the Center for Vaccine Development, University of Maryland. She conducts clinical trials designed to evaluate new and improved pediatric vaccines among children in Baltimore. In addition, she is conducting research on immune responses to malaria infection and vaccination. Swathi Gowtham, Clinical Fellow Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases Johns Hopkins University School of Swathi Gowtham is a graduating Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellow at Johns Hopkins University. She will be practicing Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Geisinger Medical System in Pennsylvania after graduation this November. Her research interests include infections in Immunocompromised patients, particularly with Herpes viruses.
