She attended Fayetteville Technical Community College before enrolling at UNCP. Her career plans are to become a PA or and MD. She is interested in professional schools at Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, Elon, Wingate and the University of Padua (Italy) where Galileo once held a chair of mathematics. Her favorite subject in Biology is Microbiology. Her favorite books are the Game of Thrones series. What she likes best about UNCP are the Biology and Chemistry professors who will do anything to help you learn and the class sizes which make it easy to have direct help on any subject. Her advisor is Dr. Hanmer. Amanda Rose Bowman was born in Pinehurst NC and attended Richmond Senior High School (Rockingham NC). She plans to attend medical school. The UNC School of Medicine is her first choice. Anatomy and Physiology I and II were her favorite courses. Her favorite book is The Bible. She likes the small class sizes, the wonderful professors, the Honors College and the numerous opportunities available at UNCP. Her advisor is Dr. Poage. Irasema Brambila was born in Modesto CA and attended Johansen High School (in Modesto) She attended Modesto Junior College and Kansas State University before enrolling in UNCP. Her career plans are either to become a PA or a Marine Biologist. She interested in graduate and professional school at Campbell University, Methodist University (for PA) and UNCW (for Marine Biology) Her favorite topics in Biology are Microbiology, Zoology, Marine Biology and Forensics. Her favorite book is In the Shadow of Man. At UNCP she likes the personal attention in each classroom that helps her succeed in a course. Her advisor is Dr. McCracken Carthenia Jayniell Brown was born in Pembroke NC and attended Lumberton St. High School. She attended Mount Olive University before coming to UNCP. She plans to become a physical therapist and it interested in physical therapy school at ECU, WSSU, or Elon. Her favorite topic in Biology is Human Anatomy. Her favorite book is Their Eyes Were Watching God. She likes the comfortable atmosphere at UNCP. Her advisor is Dr. Pereira. Brooke Leanne Chavis was born in Laurinburg NC and attended Purnell Swett High School. She is planning a career in pharmacy. She is interested in professional school at Campbell, Wingate or Chapel Hill. Her favorite topic in biology is Anatomy and Physiology. Her favorite book is The Great Gatsby. She likes the small class sizes at UNCP. Her advisor is Dr. Woriax. Austin Deese was Born in Lumberton NC and attended Lumberton High School. He is planning a career in veterinary medicine. He is interested in the veterinary school at NC State University, The University of Georgia or Tuskegee University. His favorite topics in Biology are Zoology, Human Anatomy and Ecology. His favorite book is Where the Red Fern Grows. The things that he likes about UNCP are the small classes, caring professors and the school s overall history and environment. His advisor is Ms. Young. Pamela Dexter was born in Riverside CA and attended Hemet High School in Hemet CA. Before coming to UNCP she attended Sandhills Community College and Mt. San Jacinto Junior College (CA). She is planning a career in research and is interested in graduate school at University of Tennessee Knoxville, UNC Chapel Hill or NC State. Her favorite topics in Biology are Molecular Biology and Genetics. Her favorite book is The Moonflower Vine. She likes the small class sizes and professors who are passionate about teaching at UNCP. Her advisor is Dr. Zeigler. Marcus A. Dial was born in Pinehurst NC and attended Sandhoke Early College High School. He attended Sandhills Community College before coming to UNCP. He is planning a career as a medical doctor. He is interested in medical school at ECU, UNC Chapel Hill and Duke. His favorite courses in Biology were Cell Biology and Microbiology. What he likes best about UNCP is the ability to create a close relationship with the professors. His advisor is Dr. Hanmer. Tod Frazer was born in Laurinburg NC and attended Richmond Senior High School. Before coming to UNCP he attended Richmond Community College, Miami Dade College and Barry University. He plans to become a Physician Assistant and is interested in the following PA schools: High Point University, ECU, Duke UNC and Methodist University. His favorite topics in Biology are Microbiology, Physiology and Genetics. His favorite book is Hatchet. He likes the personal relationships you can build with your professors at UNCP. His advisor is Dr. Lisa Kelly. Christy Henderson was born in Lumberton NC and attended Purnell Swett High School. She is planning a career in Physical Therapy. She is interested in professional school at ECU or Methodist University. Her favorite topic in Biology is Human Anatomy. Her favorite thing about UNCP is that professors welcome students into their offices for conversation. Her advisor is Ms. Young. Kody Heubach was born in Lumberton NC and attended Lumberton Senior High School. He is interested in a career in medicine. His favorite topic in Biology is cellular respiration. His favorite book is The Great Gatsby. The ability to speak and connect with professors to gain help and insight is what he likes best about UNCP. His faculty advisor is Dr. Woriax. Maleah Hood was born in Charlotte NC and attend Phillip O Berry Academy of Technology in Charlotte. She is planning a career in medicine. Her favorite topic in Biology is Genetics. Her favorite book is Looking for Alaska. What she likes best about UNCP is that small class sizes allow for relationships with professors. Her advisor is Dr. Santos.
4 Jerica Janney was born in Rocky Mount NC and attended Rocky Mount Preparatory School. She is planning a career in Clinical Psychology. She is interested in graduate school at ECU. Her favorite book is And Then There Were None. She likes the small campus and small class sizes at UNCP. Her advisor is Ms. Zets. Caitlin Koch was born in Enterprise AL and attended Southern Lee High School in Sanford NC. She attended Sandhills Community College before coming to UNCP. She plans to pursue a career in Microbiology. Her favorite topics in Biology are Microbiology and Ecology. Her favorite book is The Madman s Daughter. At UNCP she finds that the small campus and class size allows her to enjoy a more personal connection with both students and faculty. Her advisor is Ms. Young. Kairon L Dean Locklear-Brewington was born in Lumberton NC and attended Purnell Swett High School. Her career plans are to attend medical school and specialize in facial reconstructive surgery. She is interested in the Brody School of Medicine at ECU. Her favorite courses in Biology are Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology and Microbiology. She likes the overall educational support from UNCP professors as well as their willingness to teach in the best way to help students find successful opportunities in their future career. Her advisor is Dr. Santos. Regular Membership (cont.) Aliyah Nicole Lynch was born in Dallas NC and attended North Gaston High School. She is planning a career in Physical Therapy. She is interested in professional school at High Point University, ECU, Duke, UNC and Methodist University. Her favorite course in Biology is Human Anatomy and Physiology. Her favorite book is Chasing God. She likes the diversity at UNCP and the student/faculty ratio which makes personal relationships possible. Her advisor is Dr. Santisteban. Hampton E. Miller was born in Dillon SC and attended Fairmont High School (NC). Before enrolling at UNCP he attended Robeson Community College and NC State University. He is planning a career as a Physician Assistant. His favorite topics in Biology are Animals, Conservation and Genetics. His favorite book is Harry Potter Deathly Hallows. He finds that the best thing about UNCP is the personal relationships between faculty and students. His advisor is Dr. Roe. David John Pedersen was born in Wiesbaden Germany and attended Roosevelt High School which probably wasn t in Wiesbaden. He attended FTCC before enrolling at UNCP. He is planning a career as a Physician Assistant and is interested in professional school at Duke, Wake Forest ECU or Methodist University. His favorite book is The Bancroft Strategy. He likes the close-knit family atmosphere at UNCP. His advisor(s) are Dr. Ezell/Dr. McCracken. Katherine Rentschler was born in Allentown PA. She attended Pinecrest High School (NC) and Raritan High School (Monmouth NJ). Before enrolling at UNCP, she attended Drew University and Sandhills Community College. She plans to earn an MD/PhD in Neurobiology and Psychiatry and is interested in graduate and professional school at Penn State University, UNC Chapel Hill, Johns Hopkins and New York University. Her favorite topics in Biology are Neuroscience, psychopharmacology, Human Evolution, Mycology and Toxicology. Her favorite book is Slaughterhouse 5. At UNCP she likes the small campus with many resources and a family like atmosphere that wants you to succeed. Her advisor is Dr. Woriax. Christian Butler Ryckeley was born in Altus OK and attended West Bladen High School (NC). He plans a career in medicine and would like to become a surgeon. He is interested in medical school at UNC or Duke. His favorite topics in Biology are Anatomy and Cell Biology. His favorite book is The Hunger Games. What he likes best about UNCP is the closer relationship with professors which results from smaller class sizes. His advisor is Ms. Felicia Scott. Tyler James Scoville was born in Raleigh NC and attended Cleveland High School (NC). He plans to become a wildlife biologist and is interested in graduate school at NC State. His favorite topics in Biology are wildlife management and conservation Biology. His favorite book is The Old Man and the Sea. What he likes best about UNCP is the small class sizes and getting to know professors. His advisor is Dr. Andy Ash. Brencee Smith was born in Long Branch NJ and attended Long Branch High School. She attended the University of Phoenix before enrolling in UNCP. Her career goal is to become a physician specializing in neonatal pediatrics. She is interested in medical school at UNC, Wake Forest and Duke. Her favorite topic in Biology is Genetics. Her favorite book is Where the Heart Is. She thinks that UNCP has some of the best advisors. Her advisor is Dr. Hanmer. Caleb Warner Smith was born in Fayetteville NC and attended Jack Britt High School. He is planning a career in internal medicine and is interested in the following medical schools: Brody School of Medicine at ECU, Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine and University of Tennessee College of Medicine. His favorite topic in Biology is Anatomy and Physiology. His favorite book is Jurassic Park. He enjoys the academic relationships formed with his professors at UNCP because they encourage him to become involved in the classroom and the community. His advisor is Dr. Poage. Samantha Smith was born in Rose Hill NC and attended Wallace-Rose Hill High School. Her career plans are to become a doctor of veterinary medicine. She is interested in veterinary school at NC State. Her favorite topic is Biology is Zoology. Her favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. She likes the small class sizes and helpful faculty and staff at UNCP. Her advisor is Dr. Roe. Caleb Stubbs was born in New York City and attended Knightdale High School (NC). His plans are to earn a PhD in Cellular Biology. He is interested in graduate school at UNC Chapel hill, Emory and UCLA. His favorite topics in Biology are Cell Apoptosis, Signal Transduction, and Genetics. His favorite book is Harry Potter. What he likes best about UNCP is the wonderful Biology faculty. His advisor is Dr. Poage. Amber Marie Taylor was born in Fayetteville NC and attended high school at Village Christian Academy. She attended Fayetteville Tech before enrolling at UNCP. Her career plans are to earn a Master s Degree or attend Medical School. She is interested in graduate or professional school at Campbell University, Methodist University or Duke. Her favorite topics in Biology are Human Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics and Biotechnology. Her favorite book is Jane Eyre. She likes the community, close friends and small class sizes at UNCP. Her advisor is Dr. Santisteban. Natasha Wells was born in Fort Pierce FL and attended high school at Fort Pierce Central. She attended FTCC before enrolling in UNCP. Her career plans are to earn a PhD and do research in pharmaceuticals. Her favorite topics in Biology are Neuroscience and Physiology. She likes the low student/faculty ratio at UNCP. Her advisor is Dr. Woriax.
5 Dr. Robin Gary Cummings is a native of Pembroke and a member of the Lumbee Tribe, He earned his undergraduate degree in zoology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He attended Duke University Medical School as a UNC Board of Governors Medical Scholar and Henry J. Kaiser Merit Scholar. After receiving his medical degree in 1983, he interned in surgery and completed residencies in surgery and cardiac surgery at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Cummings practiced cardiothoracic surgery at the Pinehurst Surgical Clinic and Moore Regional Hospital, where he chaired the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Section of Cardiovascular and General Surgery. In March 2013, Dr. Cummings joined the NC Department of Health and Human Services as Director of the NC Office of Rural Health and Community Care. Six months later, he was named Deputy Secretary for Health Services and Acting State Health Director. In May 2015 he was elected Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke by the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina.
