2 The National Art School (NAS) is Australia s longest standing visual arts school, acknowledged nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence for the provision of higher education, artistic practice and scholarship. NAS is a registered Higher Education Provider housed in the historic walls of the old Darlinghurst Gaol in Sydney s premier Arts precinct. This unique heritage campus provides spacious studio accommodation with dedicated teaching and workshop facilities; project and exhibition spaces including the NAS Gallery; specialised fine art library & learning resources; NAS Artist in Residence program; and Study Centre for Drawing. The School currently offers a range of accredited degree courses that embody the School s education emphasis of studio-based learning supported by core study in the subjects of Drawing and Art History & Theory. These degree programs include the Bachelor of Fine Art and Master of Fine Art with studio majors offered in the disciplines of Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photomedia, Printmaking and Sculpture. Currently there are up to 400 full time equivalent student enrolments in NAS degree programs. The school also conducts an extensive range of Short Course programs and specialist programs for High School students with over 1200 enrolments per year. In addition to an actively practicing establishment staff team, The National Art School employs over 80 practicing artists as visiting lecturers throughout its educational programs. The National Art School boasts an alumni that includes acclaimed Australian artists many of whom are key figures in the history of Australian art and contemporary art practice. 3 Digital Imaging and Print Lab Coordinator The Digital Imaging & Print Lab Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day management of the National Art School s Digital Imaging Lab and Digital Print output facilities including resourcing, maintenance and upkeep of facilities and equipment, the implementation of effective process and procedures for their use. In addition to providing digital imaging and print output support to teaching staff and students, the Digital Imaging & Print Lab Coordinator is expected to provide school-wide support in the development of digital imaging, print and digital print output services to external clients. Facilities include both Mac and PC platforms used for a broad range of digital imaging output via Adobe Photoshop CC, Illustrator and InDesign. Print output is via Epson and HP Large Format Printers. Other equipment includes scanners, Xerox photocopy, video, capture and output related hardware. Reporting to the Facilities and Operations Manager General, Full Time Higher Education Worker Level 5 with a salary package of $70, (inclusive of annual leave loading and 9.5% employer s superannuation contribution). 4 Organisational Responsibilities Sourcing, ordering, receipting, recording, storage and security of consumable materials and equipment; Coordinating the procurement, maintenance and repair of digital imaging lab and digital print software and equipment including printer set-up and colour profile management; Maintenance of digital imaging lab and print output facilities including management of consumable materials and waste materials; Assisting with preparation of digital artworks and associated display materials for exhibition/project install; Production planning, costing and scheduling of print jobs to job/client specifications; and Leading and initiating internal and external client liaison. Learning and Teaching Support Provision of support for teaching, learning and research throughout the Digital Imaging Lab and print facilities of the National Art School including the preparation of files, materials and issue of equipment; Provision of practical support to teaching staff in the preparation of student tasks, including the preparation of teaching resources as appropriate; Preparation of digital image files from various sources for print and/or screen display; Demonstration of safe and effective use of software, equipment and processes to students and users of the facilities; and Provision of advice to staff and students on digital imaging and print output. 5 Administrative Responsibilities Maintenance of records including asset register, and equipment maintenance schedules; Costing of print services including preparation of quotations and invoices for clients and reconciliations in conjunction with Finance staff; Maintenance and appropriate display of Workplace Health & Safety information resources, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and display of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) information; Maintenance of records of distribution of any equipment and/or materials distributed to staff/students; and Evaluation of operation processes and implementation of new systems with the aim of improved operation and service. General Duties Implementation of WHS policy and procedures in the classroom and studio environment; Provision of First Aid in the studio areas in a first responder capacity; Working closely with IT and Facilities staff to provide school-wide support in the development of digital imaging and digital print output; Provision of digital print services to external clients; and Performance of related duties commensurate with this level as required. 6 Essential Desirable Relevant undergraduate qualifications at AQF level 7 (Bachelor Degree) or above with relevant experience in Digital Imaging and Print Management environment, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience; Experience with Large Format printing and output via Adobe Photoshop CC, Illustrator and InDesign; Experience with and application of colour management procedures in Fine Art digital printing; Demonstrated ability to organise and administer the physical resources of a digital imaging and print facility including accurate record keeping; Ability to instruct staff and students in the safe and correct operation of audio visual, digital imaging and computer environment; Ability to communicate effectively to a range of individuals, including the ability to demonstrate and clearly convey instructions and information to groups of students; and Demonstrated ability to work both under direction and independently, and ability to contribute to a team environment. Knowledge and experience working in a visual arts education context is highly regarded; and Knowledge and experience working with a broad range of Audio/Visual equipment in visual arts education context.
