3 LLB (Hons) Commercial Law The study of commercial law looks at how law is applied to UK, European Union and international business and commercial transactions. On this course, you will gain the knowledge, skills and experience required to pursue a career as a lawyer in this specialist area. LLB (Hons) M221 Recognised by the Bar and the Law Society as a qualifying law degree, this course takes a practical and contextual approach, to ensure that you maintain an awareness of current issues and developments within the field. It provides a solid foundation of the fundamental principles that underpin the English legal system, while specifically focusing on commercial law. Throughout the course, you will be introduced to the commercial environment and the issues facing commercial law in an increasingly global economy. You will study a varied range of modules, including Contract Law, Commercial Law in the Global Economy, and Intellectual Property Law. In the final year, you will be given the opportunity to gain hands on experience at various advice agencies, including the Community Advice Programme (the Law School s Advice Centre). This will give you the opportunity to put your academic studies into context within a practical environment. 300 points normally in a minimum Many of our graduates go on to work as solicitors and barristers; however, there are many other careers that you might consider such as business, industry and administration. 4 BA (Hons) Criminology On this course, you will gain an understanding of the nature and causes of crime, and how the criminal justice system works in the UK and abroad. You will also have the opportunity to undertake voluntary work within the criminal justice system and allied fields to support your academic studies. BA (Hons) L370 This course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of every aspect of criminology, including theoretical explanations of crime causation, the workings of the criminal justice system and corrections both in the UK and abroad, and knowledge of crime and criminal investigation. It is a practical course, which will give you the opportunity to take part in voluntary work associated with the criminal justice sector, if you are not already working in the criminal justice system. This activity will be assessed throughout the course. The course is for those who have an interest in: issues of crime policing and punishment in modern society criminal law and procedure the work of the courts prisons and probation working in criminal justice or associated voluntary agencies. 260 points normally in a minimum On successful completion of this course, you will be in a position to pursue careers in the courts, law enforcement agencies, the Prison Service or the Probation Service. You will also have the opportunity to undertake voluntary work within the criminal justice system and allied fields to support your academic studies. BA (Hons) M2C8 This course is designed to integrate knowledge of criminology and psychology including biological and social learning models of crime. It provides you with a grounding in the analysis of crime, criminal behaviour and the internal processes that influence the decision-making of offenders. This is a practical course, which will give you the opportunity to take part in voluntary work associated with the criminal justice sector. You will undertake practical work or voluntary work-based modules throughout the duration of the course, giving you contact with and experience of the agencies within the criminal justice system. 9 LLB (Hons) Law with Foundation This course provides a foundation year, to help you develop the foundation knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete our LLB (Hons) Law course. LLB (Hons) four years M100 This is a four year extended degree designed for those who do not meet the requirements for entry onto the first year of the LLB, but who have the potential to succeed if given the extended preparation. The skills required to study for a law degree are varied and challenging, and through this course we aim to lay the groundwork for you to be better prepared to meet the demands of studying our LLB (Hons) Law. In your foundation year, you will be introduced to law making, liability and mooting. These subjects will be supported by modules specifically designed to ensure that you succeed at degree level study including Researching and Presenting Information, Individual and Group Skills, and Critical Approaches to Research and Study in Higher Education. Once you have successfully completed the foundation year, you will progress onto our LLB (Hons) Law course, where you ll study a varied range of modules including Criminal Law and Process, Professional Legal Skills and Advocacy, and European Union Law.
