Trinity College is a Catholic, co-educational College, educating 85 boys and girls from Years 8 to 12. Students enrol from a wide variety of demographic areas, including the fast developing Gold Coast corridor area of Ormeau, Beaudesert, Beenleigh and surrounding areas and areas in and around Logan City. Trinity College is administered by Brisbane Catholic Education and is a member of Marist Schools of Australia. In our 3th year of operation, our school community encourages the participation in a shared faith, Catholic identity, high quality education, contemporary curriculum, within an environment of excellent pastoral care. 2 Curriculum offerings Our distinctive curriculum offerings Trinity College offers an extensive curriculum. Numerous pathways are available to students including a range of traditional academic subjects to prepare students for further tertiary study, and work-related courses to prepare students for direct entry into the work force. The College also offers an extensive Vocational Education Program and supports students through flexible timetable options to participate in school-based traineeships and apprenticeships. There is a strong focus on literacy development, through a bridging course offered to Year 7 students enrolled in the College for Year 8. In addition, our College has forged strong bonds with the local community. The school is dedicated to promoting excellence in all aspects of education embracing Academic, Cultural, Social, Spiritual, and Sporting Endeavour. The College is currently in the process of constructing a Trade Training Centre under a Federal Government funding arrangement. This training centre will provide students with the opportunity to achieve qualifications in the areas of automotive, manufacturing, construction and hair dressing. Extra curricula activities Students may participate in extra-curricular activities including learning a musical instrument through the Instrumental Music Program, participating in regional and district sporting competitions, Marist interstate basketball competitions, College choir and College band. Trinity College also provides students with opportunities to develop many skills. These include opportunities to participate in international travel and immersion experiences, annual ski trips, school retreats, school socials, nursing home visits, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Social Justice Programs and other extra-curricular activities. 3 How Information and Communication Technologies are used to assist learning Trinity College has extensive ICT facilities. These include: a wireless network, data projectors in each classroom, specialised computer and media laboratories as well as having commenced our 1:1 computer program. At the end of, our student/computer ratio was 1:2. The College has made a significant investment in ensuring that teaching staff are equipped with the knowledge and ability to use the various ICLTs to enhance student learning. To this end, the College has appointed an E-Learning Coordinator to work one on one with both students and staff. The ongoing work of the Information Communication and Technology Management Committee ensures that new innovations in technology are investigated and utilised for the benefit of learning and teaching. Social climate Trinity College is a Catholic school with its beliefs founded in the historic creeds. While accepting that pupils will be drawn from diverse faith traditions, the values of the College are expressly Catholic. Trinity College is a community of families where care for one another is fostered. The College encourages individuals to achieve their personal best and to understand the importance of perseverance, discipline and the pursuit of excellence. The focus of Trinity College is to empower young people through idealism and hope and to aid them in their quest for self-identity, self-knowledge, self-discipline and self-fulfillment. A particular characteristic at the College is that we acknowledge and cater for the fact that boys and girls learn differently. To this end, we have tailored our middle school core subjects to specifically target the interests of these students. In addition, we have developed opportunities for specific development of students requiring additional support. Some of these opportunities include the participation in activity groups, camps and other individualized programs. Parent, student and teacher satisfaction with the school Overall, we receive positive feedback from parents about the programs and opportunities we offer to the students. Parents are frequently appreciative of the information evenings we run for them and their children in order to best inform them about a wide range of topics. Parents have become increasingly involved in the P & F Meetings over the past twelve months and offer their feedback at these meetings about the organisation and running of the school. Clarification of issues of concern are dealt with appropriately in these forums. The high demand for places in the school has resulted in waiting lists for enrolments in Years 8 & 9. The College consistently achieves academic results which are well above the State average. The high retention rate of teaching staff is indicative of their satisfaction with the School. 4 Involving parents in their child s education Trinity College is aware of the pivotal importance of a strong partnership between parents and the College community as a crucial aspect of forming relationships. We do this through involvement in events such as: Celebration of the Arts, Parents and Friends Association, Peer Tutor Programme College Working Bees, Parent Teacher Interview Evenings,Year 11 and 12 Drama Evenings School Socials, Beach-a-thon,College Open Night, Year Level Information Evenings College Masses, College Board and Parenting Evenings.
