2 STEP 1 Explore your future study options Now is a great time to start thinking about life after school, and what subjects to study in Years 11 and 12. You should choose subjects you enjoy and that match your career goals. However, as your interests may change between now and when you finish school, try to keep your options open. 3 STEP 2 What does it mean? When you come to university you will hear a lot of new terms. These explanations will help you understand what some of the key terms mean. Prerequisites Entry scores To gain entry into a UQ program, you need to have completed the necessary prerequisite subjects. Completing these subjects will provide you with the appropriate foundation knowledge. These subjects will vary depending on the program and the easiest way to fulfil these is to complete and pass them in Years 11 and 12. Some programs have additional prerequisites. All undergraduate students are assigned a university entry score. Entry scores include Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks (ATAR) and selection ranks. Eligible applicants are selected for admission to a program in order of merit: those with the highest entry score are selected first, and so on until the program quota is filled. The minimum selection rank from the previous year can be found on the UQ website. Bachelor s degree Admission pathway A qualification awarded for the first level of study undertaken at university, typically requiring three to five years of study. It provides the knowledge and skills for work in a specialist area. Within a bachelor program, you may have to complete compulsory courses and elective courses and can often choose areas of specialisation (e.g. majors). If you miss out on the ATAR/selection rank you need to gain entry to your preferred program, don t panic as you may be able to improve your entry score after one year of successful full-time tertiary study. You can accept an offer in a less competitive program so that once you have completed one full-time equivalent year (16 units at UQ) of study (at bachelor level or higher) your senior school results (i.e. ATAR or selection rank) can be disregarded and your selection rank will be calculated on the basis of your tertiary studies only. Dual program A dual program enables you to study two bachelor s degrees at the same time, and in a shorter period than if you were undertaking them separately. This means you can study several areas of interest at once, gaining extra knowledge and skills to give you a competitive edge in the workforce. To apply for UQ dual programs, you need to satisfy subject prerequisites and entry score requirements for both programs.

4 STEP 3 Discover your UQ program options Now that you have explored what areas you are interested in, learn more about the exciting programs you can study at UQ. For an audition to be at a competitive standard, the repertoire performed should be comparable to Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) Grade 7 Social Science English or Literature

7 STEP 4 Make a plan for your future Name: Take a moment to think about your current high school subjects and list the subjects you enjoy the most. Using the table in Step 1 and the UQ programs listed in Step 3, identify potential UQ programs that you may be interested in studying. To be eligible to apply for these programs, list below the subjects that you will need to complete in Years 11 and 12. English/ Literature Step 5 outlines some of the resources available to you.
