2 ACCREDITATION & GENERAL INFORMATION This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of the Florida Medical Association and the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons. The Florida Medical Association is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Florida Medical Association designates this live activity for a maximum of 14.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Intended Audience This activity is designed for plastic surgeons at all levels of experience who want to increase their knowledge of the most up-to-date, innovative trends, procedures and strategies to implement in the practice of their specialty. Educational Overview Through participation in this activity, the attendee will improve competency and planning strategies and improve their skills in a variety of new techniques and procedures including but not limited to: the prevention of medical errors; avoiding complications; effective communication with patients concerning safety; various approaches to breast procedures including the use of autologous fat grafting, implant selection and pre-pectoral reconstruction; techniques to improve safety in abdominoplasty for body contouring; use and application of fat grafting in facial and breast applications; techniques in facelifts; an introduction to newest trends in plastic surgery via a hot topics segment, including a look at full facial transplant; managing risk by effective patient selection, communication; and other practice management techniques. They will also gain understanding of the socio-political climate in which they practice in order to maintain compliance with regulations for the highest standards in patient care. With regard to regulation we are including a regulatory update and a HIPAA compliance segment. ABMS Core Competencies This meeting will address the following ACGME/ABMS competencies: Patient Care; Medical Knowledge; Professionalism Learner Objectives After attending this meeting the participants will be able to: # Describe updates in the sociopolitical system and how it works for the betterment of patient care; # Comply with and take advantage of the myriad of new laws affecting plastic surgery that have been enacted in Florida over the course of 2015; # Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations; # Avoid common disciplinary problems, reduce medical errors, and mitigate and manage risk associated with practicing plastic surgery; # Realize evidence based medicine is necessary for good practice; # Incorporate fat grafting to the face and breast into their practice; # Appropriately select implants for breast augmentation and reconstruction; # Utilize a pre-pectoral approach to breast reconstruction; # Identify and implement the best strategies for abdominoplasty patients while maximizing safety; # Analyze, treat and initiate an appropriate surgical plan for face lifts and avoid complications; # Recognize the challenges of ground breaking surgical procedure development and apply the lessons to new innovation.
