13 In the past four years, more than half the new students in North Carolina s public schools were Hispanic/Latino. Most Hispanic/Latino children in North Carolina live in households earning less than $30,000 per year, where parents don t own their homes and don t have a college education. Data from NC Tomorrow

16 Modeling Excellence East-West Community College Partnership After recruiting trip to Asia, Thailand s Prime Minister asked for help in establishing community college system. November 2001 Thai Government created 10 community colleges in rural areas having no access to higher education 4000 students in first 18 months; now up to 19 colleges and more than Thai delegations have visited and teams from NC have traveled multiple times. and more than 35,000 students
