2 Program Overview Marketing Assistant positions within provide a unique and exciting opportunity to work in the UNLV Athletics Department. Marketing Assistants act as liaisons between the athletics department and various campus and community groups, faculty, staff, and corporate sponsors. The positions offered allow a detailed look at marketing athletic programs. As well as, game day management and promotions from start to finish. This position provides an invaluable experience, of which is sure to benefit your future career in any field. UNLV Athletics views Rebel Sports Marketing Assistants as a crucial component to the success of the overall department, the dedication and contributions of these individuals are seen as priceless. Therefore, it is essential that all participants make a full commitment for the duration of their time period. For such a commitment, the staff of UNLV Athletics promises to provide an exciting and knowledge filled hands on internship experience. Be a part of the rebel tradition and explore the exciting world of collegiate athletics. Applicants do not need to have previous work experience to be considered for this program. Objective and Responsibilities The overall objective of this program is to gain knowledge and understanding of marketing, promotions and game management within an Intercollegiate Athletics Department. These positions will also, increase overall marketing, sales, relationships and management skills. There will be opportunities to develop one s stress and time management skills, while working in a team environment. The Marketing Assistants are assigned to coordinate the marketing and promotions of Rebel Football, Volleyball, Men s and Women s Soccer, Men s and Women s Basketball, Softball and Baseball. The program involves working with on and off campus groups, assisting in game management and operations of athletic events. The position will also include athletic sales of group/season ticket and program ads. Expectations Time Commitment Marketing Assistants are required to work a minimum of 8-20 hours of office time a week. There will also be athletic events that the positions are required to attend and/or work. These events are typically held in the evenings and on weekends. Required arrival times for events will be specified, but are usually one to two hours before the event. We do understand the importance of school work and believe that should come first. Thus, during finals/midterms and other times throughout the school year we will allow for reduced office hours to accommodate for school work. During school breaks, workers will not be expected to attend their office hours, but are asked to make themselves as available as much possible when home athletic events are scheduled. Promptness Punctuality is very important in the real world and we treat our internships as real jobs. If you are running late or will not be able to work during your regular scheduled time you must contact someone on the marketing staff. We expect that your commitment to work in the sports marketing office is a high priority. If you are unable to make an event you are scheduled for, it is your responsibility to find someone to cover your duties and notify the marketing staff in charge on that event.

3 Standard or Conduct Marketing Assistants represent the UNLV Athletics Department at all times. Thus, it is very important that you conduct yourself in a professional manner at events, with studentathletes and staff. The use of any alcohol and/or illegal substances is prohibited while in the office and at events. You may study on the job, when there is NO other work to be done. Please do check with the marketing staff for work that they might have. Dress Code Always dress in a professional manner. While working in the office, workers are expected to dress in a professional, but casual manner. No clothing items that represent college teams from other institutions should be worn in the office or at events. While working events, workers are expected to wear polo s or nice shirts and khakis. Event Etiquette Marketing Assistants will work a number of events throughout the year. Remember, we are all responsible for these events. Therefore, always be courteous and friendly to the public, game crew, student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff. Our job is to make a fan friendly experience the most enjoyable that we possibly can. 4 Graduate Marketing/ Promotions Internship: (No positions available for ) Graduate Interns are exposed to all aspects of athletic marketing, promotions and corporate sponsorship fulfillment as it relates to the 17 division one sports offered at UNLV. This internship will provide a student/graduate with the knowledge and experience in the area of collegiate sports marketing needed to pursue a career in the field of collegiate sports marketing. Qualifications: UNLV Graduate student Marketing, Sports Administration or Communications major preferred. Previous marketing experience in marketing/ advertising field preferred. Responsibilities: Assist in the execution of all marketing plans for Football, Volleyball, Men s and Women s Soccer, Men s and Women s Basketball, Softball and Baseball.
