2 INTENSIVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at North Dakota State University (NDSU) is taught on campus in Fargo, North Dakota, and fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The IELP is offered each fall, spring and summer term to high/secondary school graduates interested in studying advanced English or for individuals who want to come to the United States to improve their English proficiency, before pursuing an academic degree. Prospective students must have studied English previously and have a minimum proficiency level of lower intermediate. This program also is required for students who want to apply for conditional admission to an academic program. 3 HOUSING A PLACE TO CALL HOME The Department of Residence Life creates supportive, safe and healthy places for students to live and learn. NDSU students can choose from a variety of on-campus housing options in residence halls, apartments or married student living, access to meal plans and waking up every day just steps from class. Basic services in residence halls include high-speed computer data jacks, basic cable television, coinless laundry, study lounges, computer clusters and local telephone services. On-campus housing is guaranteed for first-year students who completed secondary school within the past six months prior to enrollment. 4 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Minimum cumulative average of 2.5/4.0 or equivalent Minimum average of 70 percent in previous English study OR score of: TOEFL: 40 (IBT) or 433 (PBT) IELTS: 4.0 Pearson s: 38 ELS: 103 Financial support equivalent to estimated costs for two terms One letter of recommendation $35 IELP application fee, nonrefundable Complete online IELP application How to apply to the IELP only 1. Submit all requirements listed on your application profile Application deadlines Spring Term: Nov. 1 Summer Term: April 1 Fall Term: June 1 Note: If you also plan to apply for conditional admission to an academic program, the undergraduate or graduate application deadlines will apply. CONDITIONAL ADMISSION OPTION An international student who meets all academic requirements, yet whose English examination report is below the requirement for full admission, can be considered for conditional admission to an NDSU academic program. This option still reflects admission for full-time study at NDSU. Conditional admission applicants should submit all required undergraduate or graduate application materials, in addition to an online IELP Application and nonrefundable $35 IELP application fee. Eligibility to register for one or more academic classes, while still enrolled in the IELP, is subject to English proficiency results in the on-campus placement test or IELP coursework. Program length is determined on an individual student basis and dependent upon completion of IELP course requirements. After successful completion full-standing admission will be granted.
