2 FROM THE OFFICE OF STAFF DEVELOPMENT Welcome back! With the dog days of summer over and the excitement of the new school year here, the Office of Staff Development and the professional learning instructors welcome you back to the school year. After offering 33 different courses this past summer, we ve narrowed the focus for Fall 2015 courses to help build the foundation and guiding principles of the district s mission. Inside you will find Foundations of Literacy, Word Study in Action, and Understanding Student Thinking in Numbers and Operations. These courses provide the base knowledge for literacy and mathematics instruction for teachers in the district. In addition, you will find ActivLearning: Core Essentials. This course supports student engagement through digital technology and helps you make the most of your interactive whiteboard. Our professional learning opportunities are continuing to grow and change to respond to the district s needs. Guiding these efforts is the Professional Growth Committee. This committee meets monthly to shape the programming offered. We are continually looking for new ideas and instructors to provide quality learning opportunities for RCAS staff and the community.
