4 ALL INDIA LAW ENTRANCE TEST AN INTRODUCTION National Law University Delhi (NLU-D) conducts All India Law Entrance Test, also known as AILET for admissions to 71 seats in five-year integrated law programmes. AILET began in 2008 as the law entrance exam for admissions to NLU Delhi. The undergraduate law admission process in NLU-D is based on the law admission test followed by shortlisting of candidates based on their marks and a counselling round. The syllabus of AILET majorly comprises of subjects and topics studied till Class 12th except for Legal Aptitude which assesses your interest towards legal education. AILET, the admission test for NLU-Delhi s 5-year integrated law programmes is assumed to be a tough one compared to CLAT, the most sought after law entrance as around candidates compete for just 71 BA LLB seats whereas as many as candidates appear for 2190 seats in the latter one. 4

AILET ELIGIBILITY Academic Qualification You need to have passed Higher Secondary School Examination/12th Board Examination of 10+2 educational system or equivalent examination, securing at least 50%

7 AILET ELIGIBILITY Academic Qualification You need to have passed Higher Secondary School Examination/12th Board Examination of 10+2 educational system or equivalent examination, securing at least 50% marks in aggregate of the subjects in the qualifying examination. Age Bar In addition to the above educational qualification, you need to have attained a minimum age of 21 years as on July 1 of the year of admission. However, if you belong to the SC/ST category, you need to have attained a minimum age of 23 years on the same date. Who else are eligible for AILET? If you are appearing in 12th Board or equivalent examination, you can also fill the applications and appear for the law admission test subjected to the minimum academic qualification required and age at the time of admission 7

However, if any answer is marked with more than one answer, it shall be treated as wrong and no marks shall be awarded, even if one of the other marked options is correct. Subjects The 150 questions of the offline AILET paper are distributed among five sections English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, Basic Mathematics and Legal Aptitude 8

9 AILET CUTOFF TREND NLU Delhi determines minimum marks to be scored in AILET for qualifying for the BA LLB admissions. In 2015, while General candidates needed to score 98 marks out of 150 in AILET paper, Kashmiri Migrants needed to score 82, SC category candidates needed 75 and ST category 72, whereas the candidates belonging PwD category needed 85 marks to admissions in 5-year integrated law programmes. In 2014, those belonging to General category needed 103 out of 150 marks, SC category candidates needed 85 marks, ST category 80 and PwD category candidates 83, whereas Kashmiri Migrants needed 101 marks to qualify for the BA LLB admissions. 10 AILET TIMELINE NLU Delhi issues notification for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) in the second week of December every year, while the applications can be filled between first week of January and second week of April of the subsequent year. The NLU shall be issuing admit cards for the admission test in online mode, which can be downloaded by the candidates from third week of April, as the exam shall be conducted in offline mode in the first week of May. NLU-D shall be announcing the results of AILET in online mode in downloadable pdf format in the third week of May along with issuing answer keys and merit lists of the candidates. Admission letters shall be issued to only those candidates who shall be qualifying the NLU Delhi admission test and they ll need to remit the admission fees by third week of June as the admission counselling shall begin from fourth week of June and the academic session shall begin from first week of August. What is needed during the preparatory days? Experts recommend sticking to the same strategy which you have planned during early preparation days as it keeps you on track. Harsh Gagrani, CEO, LegalEdge Tutorial says, Law exam aspirants need to prepare a schedule and stick to it in their last days preparation as it will help them in performing well in the exam. Experts advise for concentrating on revising concepts. Rajendra Khadav, Director, Crack CLAT Tutorials says, Law aspirants should now concentrate on revising concepts of AILET syllabus and re-look their knowledge to be thorough with the revised concepts. AILET Toppers also advocate for taking regular mock tests. Yashika Jain, AILET 2013, AIR 8 says, I used to take mock tests and practice last years question papers, regularly as it helped me in analyzing me preparation and move to the next level. Importance of Mock Tests Exam experts and toppers recommend for taking regular mock tests and previous years question papers. The exam expert also suggests, One mock test each day will help you in revising your concepts apart from building your confidence. However, some toppers have appeared for as many as 100 mock tests before the actual exam, to outsmart other candidates and grab a prestigious seat among the 80 offered by NLU Delhi. Ashwij Ramaih says, I have taken around 100 mock tests before actually appearing in AILET Mock tests were really helpful in gauging my performance of AILET.
