4 Grading/Assessment The module examination comprises two components and one precondition you must fulfill to be admitted to the module examination: - Final written exam (50%) - Company report (50%) - As a precondition in the sense of 13 para. 6 1 st sentence of the Study and Examination Framework Regulations (RStPO): The Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certificate (I will not look at your performance, i.e. you just have to pass). The BMC certificate is mandatory for all students and a prerequisite for the admission to the module examination. I will not grade your report and you cannot participate in the final exam if you don t turn in your certificate until 31 May 2017! 4

5 Final Exam Final written exam: Dates will be announced on Moodle (probably 20 July and week of 25 September). Exam (90 minutes) will be worth 50%. Final exam will be open book, open notes. You can bring in as much supporting material as you can carry (at a time). Please bring your calculators and also your laptops, tablets, notebooks (yes, you can use them in my finals, but NOT as connected devices, i.e. no internet access and no chat functions etc.). Phones, smartphones, iphones etc. must be switched off. The exam is NOT group work. 5

6 Company Analysis Company Analysis: 50%. Each student will have to hand in a report on a self-chosen company. You will apply what you learn in class on this company. The work requirements are on Moodle. I expect you to summarize your findings in a report. This report is due on 14 July 2017 (please to ralf.hafner@htw-berlin.de). Please organize in working groups (between 3 and 6 students). Choose an industry (social media, beverages, apparel, luxury goods, construction, software, whatever you like and you are interested in, you are free). Within this industry, each student chooses a company. It should be quoted on a stock exchange. There are no other limitations, so take one you always wanted to know more about. May be one from your home country. Try to avoid loss-making companies, companies from the financial services sector, and companies with large capital arms (e.g. GE, car manufacturers). Meet regularly and discuss and compare your findings. Each student will have to deliver an individual report on her or his company. We will organize the groups and the companies in the first tutorial. 6

7 Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) Certificate Please use our Bloomberg lab for the research on your company, room A 120, access on workdays from 7:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. To get acquainted with the terminal, all students must complete the Bloomberg BMC course in the first weeks of our class. BMC is an 8 hour self-paced e-learning course that provides a visual introduction to the financial markets. BMC consists of 4 modules Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income and Equities woven together from Bloomberg data, news, analytics and television. Once you re logged in, just type BMC into the command line. The rest should be self-explaining. Please bring your own earphones with you to the lab! You will get a certificate upon successful completion of the course. This certificate is mandatory for all students and you must turn it in until latest 31 May 2017 ( to ralf.hafner@htw-berlin.de). 7
