2 Centre for Disability Studies(CDS) in the Campus of Mizoram University,Aizawl,Mizoram established by National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities(Divyangjan), Kolkata was inaugurated by Pu Lal Thanhwala, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Mizoram in presence of Shri Krishanpal Gurjar, Hon'ble Minister of State, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, Prof..KRS Sambasiva Rao, Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University, Smt. Dolly Chakrabarty, Joint Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities(Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, Smt. K. Vanlalrawni, Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Mizoram, Dr.Lalnuthara,Commissioner of Persons with Disabilities(Divyangjan), Govt. Of Mizoram and Dr. A.Biswas, Director,NILD, Kolkata on Senior Officers and staff of NILD,Mizoram University faculties welcomed Hon ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, Hon ble Minister of State, Govt. of India and other dignitaries. The formal inauguration of the CDS building was done with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. 3 The unveiling of inaugural plaque was done by the Hon ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, Hon ble Minister of State, Govt. of India, Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University, Joint Secretary, DEPWDs, Govt. of India, Secretary Social Welfare, Govt. of Mizoram, Commissioner of Persons with Disabiklities, Govt. of Mizoram and other dignitaries. After unveiling the inaugural plaque all the dignitaries joined for the lamp lighting ceremony in the Academic and administrative building of Centre of Disability Studies. Then the dignitaries visited the Academic & Administrative, Hostel building and Canteen cum common room building of CDS along with the senior officers of NILD and faculties of Mizoram University. 4 After ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling the inaugural plaque of the Centre for Disability Studies, the Hon ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, Hon ble Minister of State, govt. of India and other dignitaries proceeded to the Auditorium of Mizoram University for the inaugural function. Smt. Dolly Chakrabarty, Joint Secretary to Govt. of India and Dr. Abhishek Biswas, Director, NILD, Kolkata welcomed the Hon ble Chief Minister, Hon ble Minister of State with Stole and Memento. There was lamp lighting ceremony as a customary for starting auspicious occasion. Prof. SRS Sambasiva Rao, Vice Chancellor of the Mizoram University delivered his Welcome address and spoke about the importance of the Centre. He also mentioned in his Welcome speech to start different collaborative programs with CDS. He has already submitted two proposals for two different programs to be started in collaboration with Centre for Disability Studies. Mizo Traditional Dance was performed by the Children with Special Needs, Gilead Special School, Aizawl, Mizoram. The Children performed the dance beautifully and all dignitaries appreciated the talents of the Children with Special Needs. 5 Mrs. Dolly Chakrabarty, Joint Secretary to Govt. of India delivered her Introductory Speech. She spoke that Centre for Disability Studies is a completely new initiative taken by the Dept through National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities(Divyangjan), Kolkata. CDS is first of its kind in the University set up. It will mainly focus on research, teaching, training & practice on the issues related to disability. Centre like this will attract students/ researchers of other streams too to work on the issues of disability. Shri Krishanpal Gurjar, Hon ble Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, said massive efforts would be taken to study the various problems faced by differently abled persons and to make their daily life easier. He said that every citizen has an important responsibility to help the differently abled people in order to enable them live a comfortable and easy life like others.
