5 Professor Roland Chin Tai-hong 錢大康教授 President and Vice-Chancellor Hong Kong Baptist University Professor Roland Chin earned his Bachelor s and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1975 and 1979 respectively. Upon graduation, Professor Chin had worked at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland for two years before joining the University of Wisconsin, Madison ( ) as Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His teaching and research interest is in the areas of computer vision, image processing, and pattern recognition. Professor Chin has extensive experience in teaching, research and leadership in higher education. He had been Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and Chair Professor of Computer Science of the University of Hong Kong since Prior to that, Professor Chin had served the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology between 1992 and 2010, during which he was Chair Professor of Computer Science ( ), and Vice-President for Research and Development ( ) before becoming Deputy President and Provost ( ). From 2001 to 2003, he was seconded to Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) as Vice President for Information Technology. On 1 September 2015, Professor Chin assumed office as the fifth President and Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong Baptist University. 1
