18 Regular vs. Honors Same standards are covered in each course. Honors covers each topic at a deeper level. Honors students complete independent research. Honors is recommended for students who are: Currently finding success in an honors science class. Interested in taking AP science courses. Interested in science as a career.

21 Opportunities for Academic Advancement DMACC Shared Programming High school courses that students concurrently enroll in a corresponding DMACC course DMACC Career Academies Vocational academies (multiple courses) located on the DMACC campus Advanced Placement (AP) Coursework High school courses aligned to college coursework through the College Board. College credit awarded by the receiving postsecondary school based on the student s score on the AP exam.

22 DMACC Shared Programming Students MUST BE proficient on the Iowa Assessments in order to enroll in DMACC course in the academic program. Courses in the vocational program are exempt from this requirement. Academic advisors at DMACC closely monitor student progress in DMACC shared programming courses. Students who do not maintain a 2.0 GPA in their DMACC coursework are at risk of being placed on academic probation. Students taking a college math course for the first time must pass the ALEKS Assessment
