MCAN Congratulates Michigan High Schools with High FAFSA Completion Rates Lansing, MI May 31, 2013 - As the cost of college continues to increase, financial aid becomes ever more important.

1 MCAN Congratulates Michigan High Schools with High FAFSA Completion Rates Lansing, MI May 31, As the cost of college continues to increase, financial aid becomes ever more important. While many factors are involved in the decision to attend college, there is a strong correlation between completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and college enrollment. Since 2012, the U.S. Department of Education has provided high schools with current data about their FAFSA submissions and completions so that high schools can track their progress and help to ensure that their students complete a FAFSA. In Michigan, Local College Access s (LCANs) have sparked schools and communities to dramatically increase FAFSA completion rates. A completed FAFSA allows the U.S. Department of Education to determine a potential student s eligibility for federal student aid a key factor in families college decisions. Michigan College Access (MCAN) encourages community and education leaders to prioritize strategies that lower the financial barriers to postsecondary education, including FAFSA completion efforts.
