11 The commissioner is required to provide a scale score to 100-point score conversion table. Districts are required to provide accelerated instruction to students who fail any of the five STAAR EOC assessments. Satisfactory performance on other assessments (e.g., AP, IB, SAT, ACT) in equivalent courses can substitute for performance on STAAR EOC assessments. July 2013 Student Assessment Division 11

12 STAAR English I and II Instead of having separate reading and writing assessments, these tests will be combined into one assessment per course with one score. The combined assessments will be available beginning in spring July 2013 Student Assessment Division 12

13 STAAR English I and II Students who have currently passed one assessment but not the other (e.g., passed English I reading but not English I writing) will still need to pass the second assessment to meet graduation requirements. Students who have not successfully met their graduation requirements for English I or II by spring 2014 will need to take the new combined reading and writing assessment. 18 Requires the commissioner to establish assessment administration procedures that minimize disruptions to school operations and classroom environments. Prohibits districts from removing students from class for remedial tutoring or test preparation for more than 10% of the school day. 25 The STAAR progress measure will provide information about the amount of improvement or growth a student has made from year to year. Individual student progress will be categorized as Did Not Meet Met Exceeded July 2013 Student Assessment Division 25

26 Progress will be measured by a student s gain score, the difference between a student s prior year and current year scores. The gain score will be compared to a progress target. Progress targets are based on final recommended performance standards and vary by grade/subject. July 2013 Student Assessment Division 26

27 In summer 2013 districts will receive progress measure information within their district accountability files for STAAR. In fall 2013 progress measures will be available in the student data portal for STAAR, STAAR Modified, and STAAR Alternate. In spring 2014 progress measures will be provided on CSRs, in the accountability file, and in the student data portal for STAAR, STAAR Modified, and STAAR Alternate. 29 An updated testing calendar will be posted to the TEA Student Assessment website. The online calculator tool has been removed from TestNav beginning with July 2013 administrations. Handheld calculators are still required for specific tests.
