5 Graduation Requirements 4 English 4 Math while in High School, must have Math each year Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Senior Math Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors, Pre-Calculus, Senior Math 3 Science Biology, Chemistry and an additional Lab Science Typically the additional science is Physical Science, unless student is in 9 th grade Honors Biology (see catalog for requirements) 3 Social Studies W. History & Geography, US History & Geography, ½ US Government and Civics* and ½ Economics *Can be replaced with JROTC

6 Graduation Requirements (cont.) ½ Personal Finance* 1 Lifetime Wellness* ½ P. E.* 1 Fine Art (music, theatre, art) 2 Foreign Language (must be the same language) 3 Elective Focus Credits (aka Focused Elective Group) * Can be replaced with JROTC

7 Additional Requirements ACT Assessment Now required that all students TAKE the ACT test to graduate ALL STUDENT TAKE DURING JUNIOR YEAR DURING SCHOOL DAY Civics test Now required that all students TAKE this assessment to graduate No minimum score required at this time Taken in US Government or JROTC II

8 Volunteer Opportunities TN Scholars Information in registration packet Not required, but recommended Earn recognition at graduation Some colleges offer scholarships New Volunteer Policy 10 hours each semester Cannot earn these hours through school club/organization Earn recognition at graduation Must be turn in by the first day of exams each semester Miss one semester of hours, do not qualify For more information, see our website

9 Focused Elective Group What is it? Elective Focus is a group of elective classes that students take in high school from a chosen area Must have 3 classes from the same area Opportunity to learn about a career interest while in high school Opportunity to graduate with SKILLS in a career field What is it NOT? It does not choose a student s career profession for life

10 Focused Elective Group How do I choose? Login to the Kuder Navigator website, look at your Assessment Results What area is most like the College Major or Career Path you are interested in? What area would you like to spend time learning more about while in High School?

11 Fine Arts (must have total of 4 credits) Can stick with a group or mix and match as long as prerequisites are met Visual Art I, II, III, IV(aka Photo), AP Art Theatre I, II, III, IV General Music, Guitar I, Choir, Band, Theory & Harmony

12 JROTC JROTC I, II, III, IV Students who choose JROTC as their Elective Focus CANNOT use it to also replace Wellness, PE, Personal Finance and Government

22 When are the forms due? School Counselors will be at MCMS to meet with students individually Jan 12-13, st. Accepted Ag Academy students MUST set up a registration appointment, you are NOT officially enrolled until you do Accepted students will be contacted Feb 7 th /8 th, and appointments are Feb 9 th or 10 th 7:00-3:00 Students on an IEP will meet with HS counselors at MS as outlined above to discuss electives, CORE CLASSES will be chosen at IEP meeting in March/April. Turn in your registration form when you meet with HS counselor, then Mrs. Erb will bring the form to the IEP meeting at the middle school.

23 When are forms due? January 31 st This includes students applying to an Academy, if accepted I will have your form at the Academy registration meeting Students that applied to an Academy at another high school your registration will take place with that high school. The Academy counselor for that school should be in contact with you soon. Complete your registration form with signatures AND THE ACADEMYYOU ARE APPLYING TO WRITTEN AT THE TOP. I will send a copy of your form to that Academy.

24 Your TO-DO List Complete Registration Form, including signatures for HONORS recommendations If interested in an CMCSS Academy, turn in application ASAP (no later than Feb 3) WE WILL TAKE THEM TONIGHT!! Turn in Registration Form when HS Counselors come to MCMS Jan 12-13, (with signatures!) Make an appointment with Mrs. Erb to discuss classes or ask questions optional unless entering MCHS Academy Registration forms must be turned in by Jan 31!
