RISD Program of Studies The RISD Program of Studies is available on the RISD website. Go to www.risd.org Click on Departments Click on Guidance and Counseling Click on Pre-registration Counseling Resources The Program of Studies provides students and parents important information that is critical to students academic success. It includes specific descriptions of graduation requirements, instructional programs, course information, grading guidelines, and other academically related district policies and guidelines. Although a primary tool for student pre-registration, we strongly encourage you to refer to the Program of Studies throughout the school year as a resource for other questions you may have concerning instructional issues.

Important Information to Know Absences. Students may not miss over 10% of the semester to receive credit for classes. Too many absences each semester will result in absence failure and denial of credit. Students can attend Wednesday School, Saturday School or make arrangements with teachers to make up absences during tutorials. Promotion to 10th Grade. Students must earn a minimum of 6 credits to be classified as a sophomore. Tutoring. All teachers have tutoring times before and after school. Tutoring is also offered during lunches and at Saturday School.
Service Learning Award To earn the Service Learning Award, students must complete a minimum of sixty (60) hours of volunteer service hours between June 1 prior to 9th grade and March 31 of their senior year. Students are encouraged to earn a minimum of 5 hours during 9th grade. Students are encouraged to earn a minimum of 10 hours during 10th grade. Students are encouraged to earn a minimum of 15 hours during 11th grade. Students must earn a minimum of 30 hours during 12th grade. Total Hours = 60 Service hours are logged on X2Vol through the student s Naviance account.
College and Career Resource tool that all students can access. Class Rank and Grade Point Average can be found on Naviance. Freshmen will not have a GPA or Class Rank until completion of the 1st semester.

Other Helpful Information Magnet Programs If your student is accepted into an RHS magnet program, Mrs. Thomas-Wright, magnet coordinator, will meet at a later date with your student at his/her junior high campus to revise course selections. For pre-registration purposes, select courses as though your student is NOT in a magnet program.
Other Helpful Information Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit hours by participating in the Dual Credit Program, a partnership with Richland College, or the UT On- Ramps Program, a partnership with University of Texas at Austin. Students can elect to take college-level coursework and earn high school credit and college credit simultaneously. Dual Credit courses are offered both on the RHS campus and the Richland campus.
Other Helpful Information Top 10% Rule Per state law, students who are in the top 10% of their class at the end of 11 th grade, end of first semester in 12 th grade, or at high school graduation are eligible for automatic admission to a Texas public university. Deadlines and completion of admissions applications apply. (Exception: UT-Austin--% may be lower; announced September of Junior year.)
