Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 21 st Hello Robert Frost Families FUTURE BEARS MEET & GREET On Tuesday, June 7 th (4 4:30 PM) we are hosting a Future Bears Meet & Greet at Robert Frost Elementary. Current 2 nd graders, and their families, are invited to explore the Robert Frost building, see 3 rd grade classrooms and prepare to be 3 rd graders! We are so excited to meet you. Silverton Middle School Our 5 th and 6 th Grade Families may have many questions about the move to Silverton Middle School. Following are some Frequently Asked Questions that may provide some of the answers. FAQ for Silverton Middle School What time will school start, and what are drop off times? Silverton Middle School will start at 7:55 AM and end at 2:55 PM on regular days. There will be adult supervision on campus by 7:30 AM. Because Silverton Middle school will use four different high school teachers, we have to find a way to work with the high school bell schedule, but also allow for an earlier release to help mitigate any student/traffic issues. When will bus schedules be available? The district target is for bus schedules to be released the second week of August. What will lunch and recess look like? 6 th, 7 th and 8 th graders will have scheduled lunch times. 6 th graders have a separate lunch time. All students will use supervised areas of the campus including the tennis courts (with basketball hoops and wall ball), green space, and some blacktop to play on, much like we have now at Mark Twain Middle School.

What will the first week of school look like? Silverton Middle School will be doing a staggered start this year. We want our teachers to be able to spend quality time with smaller groups so that all of our students understand what life is going to be like on our new campus. September 6 th : 8 th graders will attend school on this day. They will be in their AG class all day and will learn the new rules, procedures, and expectations for the new campus. September 7 th : 6 th and 7 th graders will attend school on this day, 8 th graders will not attend on this day. 6 th graders will be with their teacher and 7 th graders will be with their AG teacher all day, learning the rules, procedures, and expectations of the new campus. September 8 th : All students will be on campus together. Is there a way to improve STEM? Our current 7 th grade Science teacher has attended STEM trainings and is doing continuing education on how to incorporate the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) Engineering standards into the class. Can you have a robotics club? We will have an after school Robotics club as long as we can find a coach. Funding has been set aside for the club. Can you offer a robotics class? At this time, we don t have anyone who can teach robotics, though we would love to have this as an option in the future. Accommodations for weather and floating between buildings at the new campus.. How will you do that? There has been some discussion about the addition of a covered walkway at some point in the future. However, it is not part of the budget for this project. Also, a covered walkway will have other implications such as code requirements and limiting the access of emergency vehicles to this portion of the campus. We plan to continue this discussion in hopes of addressing it, if possible. Lockers: Are they an integral part of the locker? If no, who provides the locks? The lockers we will be using at Silverton Middle School have an integrated lock. Silverton Middle School will provide any locks needed for the PE lockers. School Calendar
