What s Your Why? Our Mission is to Enhance the Student Experience through Competitive and Education Based Athletics. Core Coaching Values Treat our Athletes with Respect Clearly Communicate with all Stakeholders Provide a Safe Learning Environment Encourage Sportsmanship through Victory & Honor Work Hard, Be Thorough, Be Professional Operate With Integrity Promote the Value of Education Remain Sensitive to the Athlete s Academic Needs Present a United Front

ENHANCING THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE High School Sports engage more individuals, families, and communities in a shared experience than any other activity.. High School Sports present countless teachable moments where ethical values such as empathy, moral courage, fairness, responsibility, and respect for self and others can be developed. High School Sports connect students to caring adults in their learning community who foster social-emotional intelligence and academic success. High School Sports provide schools a platform to promote school pride and culture.

What s Your Why? When you know your WHY, you motivate yourself instead of needing others to motivate you. When you know your WHY, you adopt an Investment Mentality vs. a Sacrifice Mentality When you know your WHY, you take full responsibility for yourself and your training. When you know your WHY, you willingly discipline yourself to do what is necessary.

EDUCATION BASED Does your Why fit ours? Purpose Driven Athletes learn to develop successful traits. Education Based Athletics focuses on developing these traits through a team first mentality.

TEAM FIRST High School sports must be MENTALITY fun for students and they must recognize value in participation. College prospect to High School Hero. The focus must always be on the students. Enhance the academic mission for the school Responsible Citizens Be the Best at Getting Better Participation based on merit of the student. Coaches pay No required fees

Some 41% of children from households earning $100,000 or more have participated in team sports, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. In households with income of $25,000 or less, participation is 19%. EDUCATION BASED

COMPETITIVE Big VIII League provides some of the toughest competition in the nation with State or Nationally ranked teams in almost every sport. Students will have the opportunity to compete with and against the best. Practice: We believe that competitive practices foster the highest learning enjoinment for our students. Starting positions must be earned by competing everyday. Tryouts: The positive impact of High School sports in our area and at our school creates a competitive environment students must be prepared for when they tryout. Playing time is debated every day at Practice

Sportsmanship Corona-Norco Unified Schools are committed to upholding the principles of Victory with Honor as outlined by the CIF. Parents, guardians and fans can have a positive impact on the athletic experience for everyone involved in high school athletics. Please remember that attendance at practice or game contests is a privilege and not a right.

Communication COMMUNICATIONS YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM YOUR CHILD S COACH: Philosophy of the coach Expectation the coach has for your child Location and times of all practices and games Team requirements, i.e. practices, out of season training, etc. Procedures to follow should your child be injured during participation Discipline that may result in the denial of your child s participation COMMUNICATION THAT COACHES EXPECT FROM PARENTS: Concerns expressed directly to the coach Specific concerns with regard to a coach s expectations Notification of any illness, injury or missed practices.

Communication APPROPRIATE CONCERNS TO DISCUSS WITH THE COACH(ES): Treatment of your child, mentally and physically Ways to help your child improve Concerns about your child s behavior

Communication ISSUES NOT APPORIATE TO DISCUSS WITH THE COACH: Playing time Team strategy Play calling Other student-athletes There are situations that may require a conference between the coach and the parent. The student-athlete will be invited and involved in these meetings. To resolve the problem, we must have everyone s help and involvement.

Communication IF THERE IS A PROBLEM: Have your son/daughter talk to the coach, one on one (it s part of grow up). IF THIS DOES NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE PARENTS SHOULD: Call the school or email the coach requesting a meeting with the coach. Coaches will make time available in their day to meet with students and parents. PARENTS MUST NOT: Confront the coach before, during or after practice. Confront the coach before, during or after a game. The Coach is a teacher. A parent would not walk into a classroom during class time and yell at the teacher about a poor grade, so please do not confront the coach in public. Likewise you (the parent) would not like to be confronted by a disgruntled customer in your work place! There are proper ways and methods to communicate and have your concerns addressed. Practices and games are highly emotional times for everyone involved and concerns do not get resolved during emotional times.
