DPS STS SENIOR SCHOOL VOL : 7 // ISSUE : 4 // Nov 2016 ACADEMICS FIRST TERM REPORT CARD. The First Term Report Card Distribution of Grades 5 to 9 for the session 2016-17 was held on 3 rd November. Parents discussed their wards academic performance and also gave valuable inputs on how to resolve certain learning issues that are currently being faced by their wards. PARENT TEACHERS MEETING. Parent Teachers Meeting for Cyclic Test 1 (Grade 11 to 12) was held on the 28 th at the Senior School building. It was held from 2:20 3: 00 pm. Parents discussed their wards upcoming AS and A Level Board exam preparations and also appreciated the valuable suggestions made by the Subject teachers. FIELD TRIPS ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY TO NAZIMGARH WILDERNESS RESORT, LALAKHAL, SYLHET.

30 students of Grades 9 to 12 went on an adventurous journey to Nazimgarh Wilderness Resort, Lalakhal, Sylhet, from the 3 rd 5 th. It was designed to challenge the participants both mentally physically and equip them with basic survival techniques. They spent two nights in tents set in the open within the premises. This was a part of the segment of Duke of Edinburgh s Award (Bronze & Silver Level). Students gained valuable experience and insight about nature as well. CO CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES SENIOR SCHOOL SPORTS & CULTURAL SHOW. Senior School Sports & Cultural Show was held at the Senior School on the 4th and 5 th. Parents of the performers came to enjoy their wards performances and it was a fun filled programme. ANNUAL PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY 2015-2016 SESSION.

On the 22 nd, DPS STS Senior School Dhaka hosted the Prize Giving Ceremony for the 2015-16 Session. Respected Principal Mr. Harsh Wal, Vice Principal Mrs. Madhu Wal, Dean of Academics, Heads of Senior, Middle, Junior and Primary School awarded certificates and Prizes to the subject toppers from Grade 3 to Grade 12. This was a highly prestigious ceremony awarding Certificates and Prizes to Students from Grades 3-12. Most awardees received multiple certificates upon achieving highest marks in respective subjects. DPS STS School proudly awarded World Topper and Country Toppers. In the AS Level, Ayman Hoque achieved World Topper in Mathematics along with 1st place among the 4 other Country Toppers.

Other Country Toppers included Highest in Bengali, English, Chemistry, Mathematics, Business Studies, Biology, Physics and Computer Studies. Students were also awarded for their musical, speech, dance, writing and spelling abilities along with Full attendance. The School puts a lot of emphasis on developing extracurricular activity and thus, prestigious trophies were awarded to individual Houses under categories of Academic, Cultural, Sports and Discipline. The most prestigious Cock House Trophy was won by the Sapphire House after obtaining most points in all categories. The entire programme was concluded with an inspiring speech by Honourable Vice Principal Mrs. Madhu Wal. Vice Principal Ma'am emphasised the importance of Social work and also reflected on the fact that every child is a winner despite trophies or awards. She then commended the sacrifice made by Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain to stand against terror and oppression and also acknowledged his achievement of the Mother Theresa Award conferred posthumously to his parents. She added that Faraaz is now a role model to many youngsters who want to make a difference in today s world. Vice Principal concluded her inspiring speech by quoting a sportsman prayer written by Knute Rockne, If I should win, let it be by the code with my faith and my honour held high, and if I should lose, let me stand by the road and cheers as the winners go by. Weekend swimming classes for grade 3 and 4 were held at the School s swimming pool. It was a huge turnout of Grade 3 kids from our Junior section and there were 33 Girls and 30 Boys of grade 3 who attended the session.

2ND DIVISION CHESS LEAGUE. DPS STS School Chess Team participated in the 2 nd Division Chess League, which was held at Bangladesh Chess Federation, National Sports Council Hall, Purana Paltan, Dhaka from 3 rd November to 9 th November 2016. DPS STS School Students won fair play awards in the tournament. 1 st ASIAN CUP UNDER 14 CHESS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP IN CHINA. Daniel Murad Grade 7B participated in the 1st Asian Cup under 14 Chess Team Championship from 5 th November-2016, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, China. to 12 th SUNBEAMS BASKETBALL LEAGUE (BOYS & GIRLS)- 2016.

DPS STS School participated in Sunbeams Basketball League (BOYS & GIRLS)- 2016, which was held at Sunbeams School from 10th 12 November 2016. There were 8 Girls Teams and DPS Girls Team reached the Semi Finals but sadly, lost to Sunbeams School. There were 12 Boys Teams and DPS Students lost to Scholastica in the Semi Finals. PLEDGE HARBOR INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT-2016. 2 teams (U-17 and U-15) from DPS STS School participated in the Pledge Harbor International School Football Tournament-2016, which was held at Pledge Harbor International School from the 11th - 12th. U-17 Boys Team won the runners up trophy and U-15 Boys Team lost in the semifinal. DPS Team attained 2nd position in the Tournament. FRIENDLY BASKETBALL MATCH STUDENTS VS TEACHERS. On the 16th, the afternoon was enthused with an excited Friendly Basketball Match between the Students and the Teachers of DPS STS School. The event was graced by the presence of our Honourable Principal and Vice Principal. Both teams played splendidly to make it a remarkable and exciting match. But finally the energetic Teachers' Team won by 11 points. Mr Romel Gomes (Basketball Coach and Captain), Mr Imran Wahiduzzaman, Mr Tanveer Rezwan, Mr Duke Joseph and Mr Al Amin from the teaching faculty and Mr. Sunny from Admin department took part in the Match. Vice Principal appreciated the conducive environment created for the sports facilities in the Campus. She also urged the students to maintain a balance between their academics and sports for their holistic development. DPS TEAM WINS CHAMPION TROPHY IN ISD GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT. The DPS STS School Girls Basketball team (U-15) took part in the ISD Middle School Girls Basketball Tournament hosted by ISD School on 25th November 2016.Total five teams participated in the Tournament. The School Team played whole heartily and remained unbeaten throughout the Tournament. The remarkable performance was also shown in the Final Match and our School team was awarded the Champions Trophy in this prestigious tournament.

THE ANNUAL MIDDLE SCHOOL ISD CRICKET TOURNAMENT-2016. The Annual Middle School ISD Cricket Tournament-2016 was held on the 18 th and 19 th at the ISD field. There was a Total of 4 teams ISD, AISD, DPS STS School and Uttara Club Limited which participated in the Tournament. The DPS STS School Cricket Team played fabulously by winning all matches in the Tournament before booking its place for the Final. The Final Match was played between ISD and DPS STS Cricket Team on the 19 th. The DPS STS School Team nailed down the opponent by a huge margin and won the Champions Trophy. Young cricketer Mahir Shariar Khan of Grade-6 grabbed the highest number of wickets (9) in the Tournament. SCHOLASTICA INTER SCHOOL CRICKET TOURNAMENT 2016. DPS STS School Boys (Grade 8-12) Team participated in Scholastica Inter School Cricket Tournament 2016, which was held at APBn Field (RAB), Sector 2, Uttara, Dhaka from 18 th - 19 th. Out of 6 participating teams, DPS School Team attained 5 th position. SUNBEAMS SCHOOL SUPER CUP FOOTBALL -2016. Three DPS STS School teams from Grade 7-12 (U-16 boys, U-19 Boys & 1 Girls Team) participated in Sunbeams School Super Cup Football -2016, which was held at Sunbeams School from 24 th 26 th November 2016. There were 8 Girls Teams participating and DPS Girls Team attained 3 rd position. In the Boys, there were 16 participating teams and DPS Boys Team secured 4 th position. ISD MS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2016. DPS STS School Boys (Grade 7-8) Football Team participated in ISD MS Football Tournament 2016, which was held at ISD on the 25 th. The students had a great time playing against their opponents and though the game was intense, DPS STS School Team secured 4 th position successfully among 8 other competing school teams. SEMINARS/PROGRAMMES & WORKSHOPS OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL CIE AWARD WINNERS PROGRAMME 2016. 9 students from DPS STS School went to CIE Award Winners Programme 2016, which was held at The Westin, Gulshan on the 27 th. Honourable Principal and Vice Principal also attended the programme. This was a very prestigious event and it honoured the top achievers in the Country and the World.

Tahiat Goni for High achievement in Computer Science SEMINARS /WORKSHOPS/TRAININGS/MEETINGS INSIDE THE SCHOOL CANADIAN UNIVERSITY APPLICATION SYSTEM. A seminar was held on behalf of the Canadian University Application Procedures which talked about the various options of colleges and student facilities provided by the colleges, how a student can apply to grab the opportunity. They also spoke about Algoma College and about its different facilities for local and international student. Students asked various questions and left the seminar feeling enlightened. THE ESSENTIALS OF PUBLIC SPEAKING. On 6th November Vice Principal, Ms. Madhu Wal conducted a session for Teachers of English (Senior School) on THE ESSENTIALS OF PUBLIC SPEAKING. The teachers greatly appreciated the very useful presentation. This session was conducted during the Faculty Meeting of the English Department. She highlighted the content of Public Speaking and also discussed elaborately the materials in terms of planning, sequencing, blue print, thinking of possibilities and the clarity of purpose. Furthermore, Vice Principal then discussed the methods of how to begin and conclude along with the dos and don ts of Public Speaking. The session was truly enlightening and all the teachers present received a copy of the PPT via email. KL-YES(KENNEDY-LUGAR YOUTH EXCHANGE & STUDY) SESSION. KL-YES(Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study) session was held on 20 th November 2016. Sumaiya Khan Disha, KL-YES Alumni, Bangladesh and Tuba Jehran (Grade-12, student of DPS STS School) conducted the session for KL- YES(Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study) Programme at our school premises. They discussed the procedure, eligibility criteria, scholarship etc.

with the students of Grade 8 and 9 of our School. Around 10 students attended the Session. The application forms also have been provided to the interested students with all related information required for the Programme. Mr Manoj Kumar, Dean of academics was also present to answer the queries of students related with the Programme.
