Elida Freshman wins Reserve Grand Champion at Allen County Fair Elida freshman, Brooke Reese, raises rabbits and competes each year at the Allen County Fair. This year she was awarded for her efforts as she took home the title of Reserve Grand Champion with her Born and Raised Market Pen Rabbits. She also won 3rd overall Buck. Congratulations on this accomplishment, Brooke! Brooke also plays on the Girl s Varsity Soccer team.
2 Elida 1930 Graduate Marjorie Baxter leaves behind long legacy in Elida Marjorie (Miller) Baxter was a graduate of Elida High School Class of 1930 and was 104 years old when she passed away last week on Thursday, August 24th. According to the 1930 Reflector yearbook, Marjorie s hobby was Vamping Woodie and her favorite expression was Hand him a lemon! Her ambition was to Be faithful to Woodrow. (fellow Elida student who would become her husband.) She was also known by the nickname Slim. She was in the dramatic club, member of the Glee Club, secretary for the athletic association, and humor editor for the Reflector yearbook. Marjorie was a local church organist and musician and managed Groman's Music Store for 43 years. Mrs. Marjorie Baxter 1913-2017 She began playing at Zion Methodist Church when she was thirteen. Marjorie also played at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Elida, Trinity Lutheran Church in Elida and First Church of Christ, Scientist. We offer our condolences to her family including Mrs. Ardath Sunderland who is a substitute teacher for Elida schools. Homecoming Parade The Elida Mercy Health clinic at the Fieldhouse will be closing. The last day to be seen by a Nurse practitioner will be September 11, 2017. The homecoming parade is Sunday, Oct. 1st from 4:00-5:00 pm at the Fieldhouse. Anyone interested in having a float in the parade should contact Krissa Worley at kworley@elida.k12.oh.us.
3 Spanish Club Fundraiser The High School Spanish Club keeps busy each year with numerous events to enhance the learning opportunities for the students. Some of the activities include Spanish vs. Latin Olympics Cultural Celebrations, Foreign Language Week Activities and community service projects and foreign language movie nights, too. Each year there are approximately 40 students in the club. To help support the club and their activities, Spanish Club students are selling Elida Scarves for only $20 or two scarves for $35. You can see a sample of the scarf in Mr. Horn s Room 185 in the high school. Use this ORDER FORM and return to Mr. Bryan Horn by September 15th. Theatre Auditions Auditions for Elida High School's fall play "The Crucible" will be held Sept. 5th and 6th. Students can see Mrs. Bargerstock in the choir room for an audition packet. New Attendance Laws There are new School Attendance Laws in effect and some changes to how absences are calculated. Please refer to the Brochure on the school website which explains the changes. 4 Register for the Elida Educational Foundation Golf Outing There s still time to register your team for the Elida Educational Foundation Annual Golf Scramble. Sunday, September 10th at 8:30 shotgun start at Springbrook Golf Club. $60 prizes and meal included. Hole sponsorships available for $100. All proceeds go to the Elida Educational Foundation for scholarships. Last year s outing helped fund $7,000 in scholarships for Elida students. For reservations contact Joel Parker at joel@elida.k12.oh.us or call 419-331-4155 In July, Elida Senior students Cole Harmon and Jacqueline Nichols attended and competed at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. They competed with a Sports Nutrition project and received a silver rating in the senior category. While at conference, they also had the opportunity to volunteer with other competitions, listen to motivational leadership speakers, network with students from all 50 states and even watch the 4th of July fireworks in downtown Nashville. FCCLA is a National Career and Technical Student Organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education.
5 Fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey Victims Tonight the Elida Varsity football team will be playing at Bath at 7:00 pm. Elida and Bath are working together to collect monetary donations at the entrance gates to help support the AMERICAN RED CROSS and their efforts to support the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Donations will be given to the Red Cross. All the WBL teams will be doing the same. Thank you.
