Dear Parents, Welcome back to Term 2, families are reminded that this term Sun Smart hats are still required until the 30th April when students are playing outdoors, even when the weather is overcast. HUNTLY PS ANNUAL REPORT 2016 Parents and Carers are invited to a presentation of the school s 2016 Annual Report next Thursday 27th April in the school library at 7.00pm. PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT POLICY Parents are reminded that there will be a parent forum, tomorrow at 2.45pm in the library to discuss the proposed changes to our Engagement Policy. The School Council is proposing these changes to ensure that every student at Huntly Primary School receives a safe and positive learning experience. Details of this were sent home to all families late last term and a copy is available on the school website or hard copy from the school office. Please note your written responses can still be left at the school office but must be returned by this Friday, 21st April. SCHOOL GARDENS Wonderful to see the great work that has been done in our school gardens over the holidays. Trevor Strauch our maintenance person has cleaned up, weeded, mulched, pruned and beautified the yard. You will also notice we have a new grass area installed in front of the current Grade 5/6 rooms. This has been in preparation for a proposed community planting day during Education Week, 21st to 26th May. More details in coming newsletters. CURRICULUM DAY - MONDAY 24TH APRIL School Council has declared a student free Curriculum Day on Monday 24th April, 2017. Students are not required to attend school on this day. ANZAC DAY MEMORIAL SERVICE The school will again be involved in the Anzac Day Ceremony at Huntly Memorial Hall on Tuesday 25th April. All of our students are invited to attend the ceremony. We will meet at the school at 8.45am and move over to the hall to commence the Anzac Ceremony at 9.00am sharp. All students must be in full school uniform. THE 2017 ATTITUDES TO SCHOOLS SURVEY We want our student to tell us what they think Our school is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training. The survey assists schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school between Monday 22 May to Friday 23 June. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. Students from Year 5 and 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. The survey results will be reported back to the school in Term 3 and will be reported to the community at that time. Last year we used the survey results to plan teaching and learning programs as well as social and emotional learning programs such as circle time. The Department has updated the survey for 2017 to include important new measures that are known to influence student engagement and performance. Students privacy is our priority - Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an assigned identifier that may be used by the Department to combine data for research purposes only. Your child s privacy and the confidentiality of your child s survey responses will be protected at all times. No identifiable personal data is included in the survey response file. This survey is not a test and your child has the right to refuse or withdraw from the survey at any point before, during, or after completion. Want to know more? Please speak to the Principal if you would like more information or search the departments website for Attitudes to Schools Survey. At the start of each term we send home a hard copy of our Diary Dates with students. But please note this is not the complete newsletter. For the full copy of today s newsletter please go to our website (www.huntly-ps.vic.edu.au) or collect a hard copy from the school office. Craig Burnett, PRINCIPAL

GRADE 5/6 URBAN CAMP Final payments for the Grade 5/6 Urban Camp ($80.00 if you are following the payment plan) must be paid by today, Wednesday 19th April. Nihao, everyone! I am here to share with you some exciting news that happened during the school holidays. Three students (Blodan A, Nikita P and Joel P) from Huntly Primary School participated in the Easter Day Parade on Sunday 16 th April. There were students from different primary schools in Bendigo forming into a big team. All the students first put on colourful costumes and had some finger food. After a short break and performance practice, all the students headed down to the venue together. The whole team sang two traditional Chinese songs Two Tigers and Gong Xi Gong Xi (Congratulations in Chinese) and did a fabulous dance of the Chinese version of the Chicken Dance, as this year is the Year of the Rooster. All the three students showed great manners throughout the whole parade and received so much praise from teachers and parents. I am excited to show you some of the photos taken.

ANZAC DAY MEMORIAL SERVICE On Tuesday, the 25th April, there will be an Anzac Day Ceremony held at the Huntly Memorial Hall and Garden of Remembrance next to the Huntly Hall. It is a tradition for Huntly Primary School to attend as a group so we would love to have as many kids as we can to represent our school. We will meet out the front of the school at 8.45am sharp wearing school uniform, we will then walk down to the ceremony as a group with the march. Huntly is fortunate to have this as one of their community traditions. It is a wonderful way of showing some of our school values with respect for those who have gone before us and our appreciation for our community and all that we now have. ANZAC DAY APPEAL House Captains will be selling ANZAC Day Appeal Items the first week of Term 2, prices range from 50c to $5 each until sold out. A representative will come to your child s classroom.
