DPS STS SENIOR SCHOOL VOL: 11 ISSUE: 12 August ACADEMIC RESULTS OF IGCSE/O LEVEL, AS & A LEVEL Results of IGCSE/O level, AS & A level were announced on Thursday, 10th August 17. Cambridge Board Exam June 2017 DPS STS Toppers

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BOARD RESULATS 2017 CYCLIC TEST 1 Cyclic Test-01 was conducted for Grade 10 students from the 6 th. PARENT TEACHER MEETING Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM) was arranged for parents of students from Grades 5 to 9 on the 17 th to discuss academic progress and concerns. CO CURRICULAR SCIENCE QUIZ Science Quiz was organized for the Students of Grades 5 to 9 on the 22 nd. It was held at the Senior School Auditorium where the selected students represented their houses. It was a fun filled event and students felt intrigued by the wide range of questions.

DANCE WORKSHOP- DANCING FEET-2017 A 2-day DANCE WORKSHOP DANCING FEET-2017 was arranged at DPS STS Junior School, Auditorium for the Students of Grade 3-12. It was conducted by Dance Teacher of DPS STS School, Mr. Ivan Shahriar, where he highlighted and discussed intricately the styles of dance. The workshop commenced with a lamp lighting ceremony by Respected Principal Mr. Harsh Wal. Children enjoyed the workshop greatly and also gave a captivating performance to conclude the workshop. POP & BALLAD FEST REMEMBER THE TIME The Pop & Ballad Fest REMEMBER THE TIME was organized at DPS STS Senior School for the students of Grades 5 to 12. Tow eminent musicians from the Bangladeshi Music Scene participated in this fest along with the Music Department Teachers of DPS STS School. Both participants and audience thoroughly enjoyed the event.

DPS STS GUITARIST CLUB On the 24 th, Students of the DPS Guitarist Club put forth their first performance under the banner MIXED JAM at the assembly area of Senior School. The three performers were selected from Grade 11. The performers were: Maidul Islam Tamim of Grade 11C - Guitar. Sajid Rahman Khan of Grade 11B - Guitar. Fahim Abrar Aditya of Grade 11B - Cajon. The students, teachers guardians were enthusiastic and had lots of fun watching the show. The programme was coordinated and conducted by Mr.Touhidul Alam Khan Sonnet (Guitar Teacher) and the show was supervised by Mrs. Preeti Sharma (Dean of Activities & HoD-Economics).

THE RAJUK COLLEGE ROBOTICS CLUB Students from Grades 5 to 12 participated in The Rajuk College Robotics Club organized a Festival on Robotics titled "EON: Spectral Shift-17". The event was for two days at Rajuk Uttara Model College, Dhaka. The festival was a grand gathering of IT professionals and key personnel in the field of robotics and modern technology. Students were accompanied by two teachers. YOUTH DIALOGUE FOR CHANGE DPS STS School hosted a seminar on Youth Dialogue for Change, in collaboration with DAWN (a student run NGO) at DPS STS Senior School for the students of Grades 5 to 12. The theme of the seminar was, Educating the youth about the transgender community and their everyday lives". On the 10 th, a special assembly on the upcoming seminar titled 'Youth Dialogue for Change' was held at the Senior Campus of DPS STS School Dhaka. The seminar was conducted by DAWN on the 26 th at the same venue. Aryan Kabir, Department Deputy of DAWN, delivered a speech briefing the students about the objectives of DAWN and the significance of attending the seminar. SHORT FILM A short film namely MUKTI was appreciated by the students of grades 5 to 9 during their free periods at DPS STS Senior School Auditorium. SPORTS GOTHIA FOOTBALL CUP CHINA YOUTH WORLD -2017 DPS STS Boys Football Team took part in Gothia Football Cup China Youth World -2017 under the supervision of Mr. Aminul Islam, HOD (Sports) from 10th to 21st Aug 17. The results are as follows: 1st match Team DPS -2, Beijing Football Academy -8 2nd match Team DPS -0, Japan VICT Football Club-6 3rd match Team DPS -2, Hongkong Youth Team-2 4th match Team DPS -0, Uganda Youth National Team- 12 Students enjoyed the trip immensely and also participated fully in each match. They also enjoyed mingling with students from other countries and learnt a lot about their cultures and traditions.

20TH MOTHER DOLORES MEMORIAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT- 2016-17 Tournament and won the Runner up trophy. 20 th Mother Dolores Memorial Basketball Tournament- 2016-17 was held at S.F.X. Greenherald Campus of the city from 3 rd - 5 th. A team of 24 students: (Boys Team from grades 8 to 12) and (Girls Team from Grades 6 to 8) participated in the SWIMMING GALA Swimming Gala for Grades 3 to 9 was a great initiative on two Saturdays, 12th & 19th Aug 17. Teachers demonstrated swimming styles for students and parents followed by activities for all participants. PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION From the 23 rd 24 th, Students of Grades 5-7 displayed Photographs of their vacations in the Corridor- Assembly area of the Senior Campus. It took place between 10 am 2pm on both days. There were pictures put up displaying the picturesque sceneries of Nature and Wildlife. Honourable Vice Principal also added to the excitement by exhibiting pictures of her own Travel Experience around the world. It was a really colourful occasion and all the students were delighted to be able to exhibit their talents in photography. SEMINAR/TRAININGS/WORKSHOP/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEACHING SOCIAL SCIENCE SST (Social Studies) teachers of Middle School attended a 2-Day long training workshop on Teaching Social Science which was held in DPS STS Senior School. Several key aspects were covered such as, hurdles to teaching key concepts, organisation of resources, discipline and lesson planning. Teachers felt inspired and motivated at the workshop.

GLOBAL DIGNITY DAY On the 24th, DPS STS SCHOOL DHAKA organized a seminar on the introduction of Global Dignity Day 2017 at the Senior School. The Session commenced with a brief introduction of the guests along with a warm welcome by the Dean of Academics, Ms. Preeti Sharma. The three distinguished guests were Sabrina Nizam, Sabur Chowdhury and Radiyah Mohammed Salim. Initially, Mr. Sabur Chowdhury began the session with a lively introduction of Friendship, Global Dignity Day and its significance to society. He further focused on the history of introducing such a movement in our country. He then shared his slides and videos on the background of the movement, while detailing events held in different schools in various parts of the country. In the video clips, students were seen giving feedback towards the initiative of Global Dignity. Guests also suggested to incorporate Global Dignity Day at DPS STS School, Dhaka. The seminar concluded with a question-answer session. UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS COUNSELLING AND ESSAY WRITING DPS STS School has announced University Admissions Counselling and Essay Writing Classes. Ms. Nileema Khan, Career Counsellor started taking classes on University Admissions Counselling and Essay Writing. Mr. Ilham Adnan Alam, Dean of Academics (Jr. & Middle Section) & HOD (English and Foreign Languages) have started taking two classes a week on university admissions essay writing. MONASH UNIVERSITY, AUSTRALIA Ms. Hoa Levitas from Monash University, Australia, conducted a presentation on HIGHER EDUCATION in AUSTRALIA: Opportunities at Monash University at the Senior School for Grade 9-12 students. MACES PERSONAL STATEMENT WRITING WORKSHOP Mr. Patrick Douse from City University of London, UK, gave out a briefing on MACES PERSONAL STATEMENT WRITING WORKSHOP at the Senior School for Grades 9-12 students. ASHOKA UNIVERSITY, INDIA Ashoka University, India visited DPS STS Senior School and Grade 9 students attended the event to be acquainted with the subjects and facilities offered by the renowned university. UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH Mr. Ernest Damalie, University of Guelph, Canada, gave another presentation on HIGHER EDUCATION in Canada: Opportunities at University of Guelph at the Senior School for Grades 9-12 students. UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI VISIT University of Missouri visited International School Dhaka (ISD). DPS STS School students from grades 9 to 12 attended the occasion to meet the university representatives and learn about the unique learning opportunities available at the university along with scholarship information. The university is known for its program in Accountancy, Aerospace Studies, Biochemistry, Engineering, Communication, Economics, Education, Journalism and much more. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS/ SEMINARS/ VISITS ALL A*S IN AS LEVEL EXAMS Anika Rohman, a student of Grade 12 achieved all (4 subjects) A* in her AS level examinations. She is the only student studying in DPS STS Dhaka with full free studentship from Grade 11.

OUTSTANDING DELEGATE On the 15 th, Aitijhyya Pal, a student of 10-B has been awarded as a outstanding delegate in Scholastica MUN held in Scholastica Senior Section of the city. VISIT TO PALLIATIVE CARE CENTER, BSMMU Vice President of the DPS Community Club along with nine volunteer students from DPS took part in this visit. They visited the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)-Palliative Care Center and met with distinguished individuals, doctors, nurses, and patients. They were greeted by Prof. Dr. Nezamuddin Ahmad, the Secretary General of Palliative Care Society of Bangladesh (PCSB) and had a round table brief discussion with him. LIVE RADIO BROADCAST Radio Live on August 13, 2017: Nabiha Tasnuv of Grade 8 and Mohita Mobasshera Zaman of Grade 10 participated in a radio live for two hours. Two teachers (Sazzad Hossain Shawon and Amzad Hossain) of DPS STS Senior School conducted the entire radio live program. SPECIAL VISITS VISIT BY DPS SOCIETY On the 13 th, Dr. Zeenat Khader, Joint Secretary of DPS Society visited the Senior School. She was delighted to see the state of the art structure of the school campus and all the facilities offered by the School. VISIT BY STS OFFICIALS On the 26 th, Mr. Parvez Saiful Islam, CEO of STS Capital Ltd. and Chief Engineer Md. Abdur Rashid visited the Senior School. FELICITATIONS MIE (MICROSOFT INNOVATIVE EDUCATOR) EXPERT Heartiest Congratulations to Head of IT Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Mridha for being selected as a MIE (Microsoft Innovative Educator) Expert for 2017-2018 by Microsoft for the 2nd time.
