WELCOME TO ICMS O-WEEK Congratulations, you have made a great decision to join the ICMS student community. Orientation Week (O-Week) is just the start of what lies ahead in your journey with us. This week will be full of fun times and it s a great chance to get involved and experience all ICMS has to offer. O-Week is a great time for you to participate in activities, meet other new students like yourself, as well as see all the opportunities that are here for you. ICMS is a welcoming and caring place to be, where we all look after one another and help each other out. You will be entering a new environment and things may feel different. Take time to familiarise yourself with the culture so you soon feel like you belong and have an incredible student experience. Keeping a healthy balance will also be important. This week will give you a taste of all the student activities and groups that you can get involved in as well as the support that is here for you. You will have the chance to interact with student volunteers, your Student Representative Council (SRC) members, Resident Assistants (RAs) as well as getting to know the people at ICMS. Over the coming weeks, you will meet people that will be here to assist you so you can make the most of your time here, and achieve your full potential. Also take time to connect with your lecturers, staff members and your peers. You will soon feel like you re part of a supportive community. WHO S WHO AT ICMS... Around the campus this week you will meet some great people who will help you settle in to your ICMS student life. They will be on hand to guide you through the week and share insider tips to give you the best possible start to being an ICMS student. You won t miss them they will be wearing special O-Week t-shirts! SRC The Student Representative Council (SRC) strives to improve and maintain the quality of student life for the entire student body. During O-Week, the SRC helps with organising student activities and parties. RAs Your Resident Assistants (RAs) are senior student leaders who live on campus and provide all students with support throughout their time here at ICMS. The RAs are trained to be able to offer support and advice on a range of day-to-day matters, including emotional support, student comfort, safety and behaviour. They have undergone training to provide mental and physical first aid and emergency response. They are also a student voice and can help you to resolve issues about student life on campus. STUDENT AMBASSADORS ICMS Student Ambassadors work alongside the Domestic and International Development team to represent the College at internal and external events such as career weeks, career days, open days, school visits and information nights. Their primary role is to provide students and their families with an insight into academic and social life at ICMS, based on their experiences. During O-Week, they will be around to help in any way possible. VOLUNTEERS We have fantastic current students at ICMS who spend their free time helping with the needs of new students and making O-Week a fun, enjoyable and welcoming experience for everyone. If you see a volunteer, please say hello! They re friendly faces on campus to chat about student life, services and the campus. They will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have. 14

BEYOND ORIENTATION WEEK... The fun doesn t stop when O-Week ends! At O-Week you get to understand the academic side of things, improve your future aspects and enjoy some memorable experiences with new friends. These opportunities to be part of our community extend past O-Week. Throughout your studies here at ICMS you can be involved in countless activities, student representative groups, academic networks and much, much more STUDENT CLUBS Rotaract Club The ICMS Rotaract Club is part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world and is associated with Rotary International. They work on a number of community fundraising events. Get involved by emailing rotaract@icms.edu.au Scandinavian Association The ICMS Scandinavian Association is a student initiative that aims to strengthen the social network for Scandinavian students at ICMS and provide a forum for them. They share their culture with ICMS students through cuisine, beverages and music throughout the trimester. To find out more, visit the ICMS Scandinavian Association Facebook page. 20

Living Water Living Water is an inter-denominational Christian group at ICMS. Anyone is welcome to come to the weekly meetings to explore matters of faith, run by Reverend Tim Giovanelli. For more information please email tgiovanelli@icms.edu.au Asian Students Association The ICMS Asian Students Association aims to bring all Asian students closer together, offers a support network and allows for cultures to be shared. Student Representative Council The SRC is the recognised student representative body supporting student advocacy and selfdetermination. The SRC takes a leadership role in facilitating cultural, sporting and educational opportunities and experiences for ICMS students. The SRC represent the views of students, encourages students to be involved in activities, clubs and/or social events and promotes the multicultural student body. There are many other great activities at ICMS. We run weekly activities (check out Page 13) and run some great activities throughout each trimester. Be sure to get in contact with the Student Experience team at experience@icms.edu.au 21

SPORTS CLUBS Futsal Club The Futsal Club runs a weekly social competition for all students. It also competes in the Northern Beaches Football Association at North Manly. It s a very popular club among ICMS students. Rugby Club The ICMS Rugby Club competes in the NSW Suburban Rugby Union competition Jeffrey Cup (Division 6). The team is a mix of current students, alumni and community members. Netball Club ICMS has two teams that compete in the Northern Beaches Netball competition at Dee Why. Come and join in the fun and meet new students. Surf Club The Surf Club is all about promoting the sport of surfing and getting involved. The club runs a number of social surfing afternoons and is looking to hold a surfing contest in the future. 22
